Nearly my entire wardrobe of Hermès scarves including a Plisse, Pochettes, and a wee pile of 90's. Lone Twilly, left at home, holding down the scarf basket fort
Half a suitcase full of Ralph Lauren cashmere sweaters
J. Crew black trousers, black Pixies, black Minnies annnd black Majestic leggings
Waaay too many dresses
All the usual shoe suspects made the cut (Belgians, Ferragamos, fresh outta the box Viviers...) but, Babe and I can not sing the praises of the Blundstone/Patagonia mid-weight skiing and hiking sock combo loud enough. Uuup and dooown Rue du Fauboug Saint-Honoré, hooours traipsing through the Louvre, Hermès store hopping, right bank, left bank, right bank, annnd...not even once were our footsies tired or cold. Nooow, next year, I hope to have a pair of tall black equestrian boots in my arsenal but, that's an item that's being put on the summersjustaroundthecorner back burner...
I think Amy and her mother suspected me of having a clown car suitcase of coats. I was so scared off by the "puffer" backlash that I opted for mink, Persian lamb, boiled wool, waxed canvas and strong armed the B² long, black wool wrap coat right off of my sister Mandy's back on Christmas Eve (Ladurée apology soon followed). And, sure enough, all those annons were right, those Moncler's would have looked down their French noses at the Searle. Add that to the packing wish list, along with the black boots and draped in Alhambra saysyoubelongattheRitz, for next year...
Kindness of Diane Francis and Stephanie Shockley DeMallie of Gracie in Easton, MD for the Claridge + King Tuxedo shirt which, paired with black Majestic leggings and an Hermès scarf, was theee perfect flying outfit. And, Amy, who spied a French woman on her flight take the Hermès scarf from her neck and refashion it into a sleep mask. I am SOOO adding that to my bag o'tricks...XXOO
...and nothing can top an Hermes Halter under a cavalry twill jacket with velvet collar. That was you, right?

Brava for the wardrobe! Well done indeed, especially remembering the scarves. Instinct ruled. And looooove the story about the clever/obviously French woman on the plane.
ReplyDeleteYou look very, very chic.
ReplyDeleteNow that I think about, Allie, why don't you post more pics of you like this on your blog? You always blog about what you're anticipating or actually purchasing but I would LOVE to see more photos of you actually wearing them. You photograph so well and I'm sure I'm not the only person that would like that!
ReplyDeleteditto the above, I think it should be a rule that you cannot talk abt. any item, unless you show us you in it. xo
ReplyDeleteSounds like you hit the nail on the head for dressing in Paris! I have the most fantastic image of someone using their Hermes scarf as an eye mask. What a fantastic photo of you and the Eiffel tower! xx
ReplyDeleteOh yes, I'd love to see more pix. Unless that sounds weird......lol!
ReplyDeleteIf you like the Patagucci ski sox, you'll love Smartwool - so many cute choices.
Curious as to what you carried around for a bag/tote? And any feedback/suggestions on them...
ReplyDeleteAs a matter of fact I do, don't carry one. Too cumbersome when walking around all day in Paris annnd too afraid of pickpockets. Babe held my lip balm, camera and, of course, his bank. 'Twas all a gal needed...XXOO
ReplyDeleteHooray, Hooray for Hermes scarves! Also, I wore my Minnies through Germany this summer and they MIGHT be the perfect travel pant...
ReplyDeleteDo French women wear more pants or skirts this time of year?
ReplyDeleteAnd what did you notice about their clothes, make-up, accessories, etc., if anything, that surprised you?
Alice, the pack and shower in under an hour declaration still gives me goosebumps and mild heart palpitations when I think about it.
ReplyDeleteLife. Crisis.
Love the pic of your and the Eiffel Tower- this belongs in a lovely silver frame, tucked away on a bookshelf :)

Def too cold for skirts while we were there. It was pants and très conservative grooming. I took careful notice of the lack of makeup, highlights and brow waxing. Was right up my lazy with the beauty routine alley. And, accessories were all about quality over quantity. Hermès scarf, messy pony and call it a day. Myyy kinda place...XXOO
ReplyDeleteAllie you look so great in those pics. I'm sure there were women all over Paris going, "Did you see that gorgeous American?"
ReplyDeleteThank you for sharing. Je t'adore the pic of you striking a pose in RL, Hermes, J Crew, etc on the bed. Photographing the Eiffel Tower is never easy, hubbie has a wanky crooked pic that he framed and I strategically located in the basement.
ReplyDeleteFor some reason, I surprised French women apparently don't wear much make-up. Did that include older women as well?
ReplyDeleteAnnnnnnd...how can so many afford Hermes scarves? I'd think the cost would be prohibitive for young, working women.
How many suitcases did you bring??? Just curious as I am always trying to cut back on number of bags.....
ReplyDeleteYou look fabulous and chic, as always...
