Adieu Fenwick Island...

The sun has set on our time at the beach...

And, as bittersweet as leaving is, I'm so very grateful for the time we've had here. Now 'tis time to let go and make space for all the new and exciting things the Universe has in store for us...

I just pray sun and sand are part of the deal...

Kindness of everyone for giving me some time off for the move and a li'l last of summer Montauk hurrah. I will do my best to check in next week but, just in case I'm biting off more than I can post, I'll see you, at the very least, the following Monday. As a Greenwichian...XXOO

The Calm Before The Storm

The clouds have begun to gather and, in a perfect storm of bad luck, both the beach house and our new stones throw from the Long Island Sound G'wich digs are in Irene's direct path...

The bad news is, you can't get renter's insurance when you live on the ocean sooo, I get to spend tomorrow like Thomas Crown shuttling/sneaking artwork from here to my parent's insured home in the already evacuated Ocean City...

The good news is, we got renter's insurance out the wazoo for the new place so, Babe's king air mattress is covered. What a relief...

Kindness of General Babe who is, as I write this, en route from CT to the beach, for pleaseee making it here before the stroke of midnight when the State of Emergency prohibits anyone from getting on the Island. Don't you leave me and the Ti-Babes here to spell out H E L P on the rooftop in orange Hermès boxes alone...XXOO

East Coast Quake???

I thought I was having some sort of vasovagal episode. Either that or someone had slipped a psychedelic drug into the Diet Coke I was nursing...

Cuz it was not long after I tweeted this pic that the earthquake took my beach chair and stomach on a li'l ride. My sister, who had just walked off the beach, called to say the Ti-Babes had run for deep cover and the beach house had nearly shaken off it's stilts. Note to self: no more parking the whip under the house. I'd prefer a hot car over a smushed one...

My Hamptons mag, along with any thoughts of getting sun on my back, were shelved for the rest of the day as I launched into tsunami patrol trying to read the jumping blues for any signals of RUN FOR YOUR LIFE!!!

I left my post at 4pm with tan lines of demarcation down both my sides but, feeling secure in the coast's safety. And, fortunately, the only thing that suffered from the 5.9er was my increasingly pale backside...

Kindness of Hurricane Irene who will please divert out to sea and allow me one last week of good weather before I have to bid adieu to summer and the beach. I already lost one good beach day of even tanning thankyouverymuch...XXOO

Goings On 'Round The Blogging Hood

Well, Meg Carter held her random drawing for the four $250 gift certificates and guess who was one of the lucky winners?

The bff Kimba, who had actually put up a small fight when I pulled out my camera at dinner to snag this pic. That's right, who's thanking who now hmmm....

We've been conferring on possible goodies to get with my her shopping spree and we're leaning towards these as possible mates to her Van Cleef and Arpels tigers eye Alhambra bracelet...

Or, these which also would pair nicely with her bracelet annnd the Rolex with the tigers eye face that we are expecting Santa to deposit under her tree this year. This would be a good time to mention the email I received from reader Mary Anne Estes singing the praises of Meg's customer service and asking me to mention it on my blog. My pleasure Mary Anne...

In from Camp Maxminimus are the picture texts of Paul McCartney and his gal pal at the G'town Four Season's bar...

Ole Max kept me entertained last Monday evening with his celeb documenting including Paul, Jack White, Karen Elson and the Jonas Brothers while grabbing drinks and dinner with our mutual friend...

Meanwhile, back in London Ringo was on the receiving end of this picture text from Paul with a, "get a load of this guy's pants in the Four Season's bar" caption...

And, in Belgian Shoe news, looky what is contributing to the Duchess's financial woes. At least I know I'm in good company...

Although, the two of us may soon find ourselves sporting the poor woman's Belgian Shoe currently at Kmart. I guess you could call it the "step down" Belgian. Santa, if you're still tuned in, me no likey. Rubber Belgians = coal...

Kindness of Meg Carter for hosting such a fabulous giveaway, ADG and his GTH panted self for knowing how I so love a good celeb sighting and, reader Lisa Musgrave for keeping me abreast of not only important Hermes sales but, equally imperative Belgian Shoe updates...XXOO

Rain Rain Go Away Allie Needs To Run

By the time my alarm went off at 5:15 am Wednesday, for a scheduled run with Joanie, it had started storming. And, I mean storming badly...

For days I was relegated to the treadmill at my parent's gym as the Nor'easter continued to rage outside...

Parts of Coastal Highway were left under water as the bay rose and waves breached the dunes...

And, welcome to Bethany no Beach...

Julie tried to go to the Post Office for us once the rain stopped Saturday but didn't get very far...

Thank goodness I had no idea the waves were rolling over the dunes just a few hundred yards from our front door. If I had any inkling I would have been up in the crow's nest with the boys waiting to be airlifted to safety...

The good news is, there is now a fantastic break right in front of our street. The bad news is, we'll now need a staircase to access it...

Our well worn path to the beach is now more like a gangplank to the ocean. At least we have a few months for Mother Nature to right the damage before we get into serious beach season. In the meantime I may have to travel inland for my running dates...

Kindness of Tatsie and Pilge for keeping their Mummy safe while Daddy was in a different time/weather zone and the rest of Fenwick Island was evacuating...XXOO

Springtime in the Hood

It has taken me a while to warm up to Georgetown but I've felt my heart thawing a little these past couple of weekends (finally, with pic enlargement capability...).

Blanket of crocus...

Forsythia bushes en mass...

...en mass...

Pink and green!

Sweeping up crabapple blossoms...

...that have showered down...

Just so striking...

...and majestic...

One of my favorite vistas...

Spring pansies...

Our view...

Maybe, just maybe, I may even grow to love our little neighborhood.

Girls Day in G'town

My niece Emma, who attends Furman University (yes, FU) in Greenvulle, SC is flying into DC today to spend the night and shop til she drops before heading to the beach for Easter. On the requested itinerary of eating and shopping:

Chop't is my sister Julie's one and only request for the day (famous last words...). If she was ever to end up on death row her last meal would be a salad.

J. Crew is just a given. It's the place the Frost girls look for wherever we travel. Inevitably, one of us has looked ahead online for a Crew , and if there is one, then we know the town must be okay. It's kind of our familial Le Guide Michelin.

And, since the above pitstop is right next to Dean and Deluca, Julie will insist on stopping in for a decaf. Now...she's had her beloved salad, and she's sure to be toting a Crew bag, let's get her a coffee so that Emma and I may get down to business....

Off to CUSP for Milly, Loeffler Randall, DVF and other varsity players.

Peut-être, Sherman Pickey for Lilly, Tory Burch, CKB and Calypso...

Sassanova for shoes and, new love, Lauren Merkin bags...

And, the pièce de résistance, Georgetown Cupcake where we are all sure to leave carrying a pretty pink box.
