Much to Babe's chagrin, I became
quite accustomed to the plethora of fine amenities C'ville has to offer while we were living there. I'm
still getting over the loss of
Mona Lisa for my handmade pasta,
The Organic Butcher for my artisan meats,
Breadworks for fresh breads and
Foods of All Nations for everything in between. At least when I do go back I know where and how to most efficiently drown my shopping sorrows...

The family of Babe's good friend Cullen own what is my
most favorite haunt in all of Hooville, the
Ivy Nursery. I'm still in recovery for the orchid habit I developed here and I wouldn't trust my fox topiary with
anyone else...
And George...

So fantastic it gets
two pics! You'll never wanna leave, that's all I can say. Jan and Christy have
ahhhmazing taste...

Be sure to pop into
House of Jacobus right next door. But, unless you're willing to part with a kidney, and at least one lung, just plan on looking.
Annnd, start scheming about your grand return once your ship comes in...

At
Kenny Ball Antiques you will be torn between
ooohing and
ahhhing at all the beautiful pieces and stalking the owner's sweet Pugs...

I have yet to make it out to
Chuck Pinnell's custom leather workshop but, have managed to do a fair bit of damage nonetheless with the help of UPS. 'Tis
top priority though on my next swing through...

Quick refuel at
Greenberry's for some tea and a
possible Dave Matthew's sighting...

Then it's on to
Scarpa where all the pretty shoes are. If you leave with nothing other than a Wiley Brother's
belt consider it a success...

Kiss whatever funds you have left in your wallet goodbye at
Eloise. One stop wardrobe shopping...

If you need to return with gifts for someone
other than yourself
Caspari's the place. Yet, another spot I could pack my bags and move in to. A sentiment
not shared by Babe. Stationary and paper goods must be a girl's thing...

After such a grueling shopping expedition you deserve a
li'l pampering at the
Boar's Head Spa. After which you should slip over to their handsome bar for a cocktail.
Or two...
Then it's off to see an Indie movie at
Vinegar Hill. One theater, no advertisements,
more alcohol and
theee best buttered popcorn...

And, in case you came to town single, but would like to leave with a UVa doc or
doc to be, plan on capping the evening at
Zo•ca•lo. Locals don't refer to this place as
General Hospital for nuthin...
Other
bad habits hot spots not mentioned include
Eljo's, where it's like stepping into a page of the Preppy Handbook,
Blue Ridge Mountain Sports, where ya can spend a
mint on fleece and Capilene,
Yves Delorme where we purchased our gazillion thread count bed linens, and
The Pink Palm for your requisite Lilly fix...
Kindness of Elizabeth for requesting this post otherwise I would have never discovered Live And George and Scout Charlottesville blogs. It's the next best thing to being there...XXOO
Love it. Can't wait to go back. Farmington is still one of my all time faves too. And I feel like part of the in-crowd wearing my ADG/Allie Von Awesomeness belt from Eljo's as it sealed our blog friendship. :)
ReplyDeleteWow, what great places to find and explore!! Love the variety and I can see you had much fun!

food of all nations is the best. my sister's wedding reception was at the Boar's Head. they were married at the UVa chapel. your posts are making me miss C'ville, but in a good way. i cannot wait to go back this fall. thanks for sharing and take care.
ReplyDeleteMy husband gets really nervous when he sees the "pink computer screen" as he calls it. Good thing he's out of town for this post 'cause we have a trip planned to Cville this month!
ReplyDeleteaaaaaaaaand the homesickness continues. t-minus one week until uva homecomings and not a moment too soon!
ReplyDeleteI do a book signing in Charlottesville November 19th - I'd love to stay over a night but have a signing in Baltimore the next day - DANG!
ReplyDeletesoooooooooooooooo jealous! Looks like you had an amazing time!
ReplyDeleteOkay, I will have to ask my brother-in-law about zo ca lo. He was on the faculty at UVA medical school right after his divorce. I imagine he was a target. :) And, I love the painting of the two girls in the photo from Eloise - so pretty!
ReplyDeleteYou really should begin a preppy guide or wannabee wasp - ishness. I just cannot imagine the squeals coming from your mouth in each and every shop or watering hole. (And it is not even Summer)
ReplyDeleteYou always find the best, the most posh purveyors.
We all have to do our part to pump up the economy, right?
Enjoy~

Awesome awesome awesome. I'm going to drop my boyfriend at school and head straight to ridge road! When you come down for your visit you must try sweet frog. A frozen yogurt heaven on the downtown mall.
ReplyDeleteYou know all the good places to go, wherever you go! I enjoy reading your blog. :)
ReplyDeleteSo glad you know where I go.... every week! The Teeter there is just divine, and there is now one in Crozet. Natch, you understand that I grab some Crozet Pizza before going to that Teeter to get my wine, brie, etc... such a fun time!
