Alix Of Bohemia

The evolution of an Aide-de-Camp Lizzie and Allie purchase...

"Did you see Elements of Style blog today?! Already emailed for pricing on the Alix of Bohemia Camelia tie dye and the Edie." xxoo Lizzie

omg let me know what the response is. dyyying for the camelia in the cotton tie-dye! also, if you go to her website there are some thumbnails pics of a couple other gorg pieces. also like the picasso blouse and 2 of her dresses...

except the prettiest dress i don't have theee, ah, "bits" to carry off. thanks for the heads up!!! XXOO [continued back and forth banter about recent Jen's Pirate Booty order]

"No response from Alix of Bohemia yet. I'm sure she was inundated with emails bc of the post today." xxoo Lizzie [continued back and forth banter about Gwynnie's appearance and wardrobe on Who Do You Think You Are followed by debate on whether or not she has her brows dyed]

oh wait, do you know anything about sizing for the camelia shirt? XXOO

"She'll just want to know what size you normally take in Calypso, your height and your bust size. I ordered the pink and blue tie dye with blue and white striped trim, per Alix's recommendation." xxoo Lizzie [continued back and forth banter about which size we both take in the AG Stilt]

Hi Alix! My dear friend Lizzie forwarded your info to me and I too would love to order a Camelia in the pink/blue tie-dye. Please let me know what info you need from me. Merci!

Best,
Moi

"My Camelia blouse came!" [continued back and forth texting about my Camelia custom order, Elle McPherson vs Kelly Killoren Bensimon and scheming my order of her much coveted Mitchell Gold + Bob Williams bed in background for new Greenwich digs]

Next on the Alix of Bohemia docket: stalking a pair of the limited edition Icon Trews in Classic Leopard for fall...

Kindness of Aide-de-Camp Lizzie for the heads up on the great Alix of Bohemia find. Annnd, for not minding the copied duplicate Camelia blouse order. Great Jen's Pirate Booty ordering/Gwynnie lovin'/Stilts same sizing/team Elle McP alike minds and all...XXOO

Holiday Puhleeeze...

It has been a harrowing couple of days for us...

It was a rush back to the vet Wednesday morning because, in addition to the multitude of visible injuries sustained during our visit to the groomer, we had severe razor burn which caused the most discomfort of all...

So, six hours after an injection of Depo Medrol for the Ti-Babes, and a usually reserved just for flying Xanax for Mummy, we are sleeping for the first time since Monday night...

We still have a long row to hoe til we're fully recovered both mentally and physically but, I think/hope we're past the nadir...

So, after after my dinner of stale Naan and Rice Chip crumbs, I am going to finally wipe the Benadryl that was spit out on me this morning from behind my knee, curl up in bed and order the Documentary Fat, Sick & Nearly Dead. And, then we're all going to get a good night's sleep. The end.

Kindness of everyone for allowing me to bow out now for a much needed four day hols. I promise to be back Tuesday with bells and a tan on. Wishing everyone a happy, sunny and safe Memorial Day Weekend! XXOO

Bad Hairless Day

It's been a two thumbs down day and a certain to be sleepless night. A trip to a new groomer for our summer lion cuts resulted in an emergency vet visit for both my babies. Lots of surgical glue, Mummy tears and one antibiotic shot later and no one can seem to get comfortable. Daddy just Skyped from the West Coast and did his best to talk me off the hysteria ledge but, alas, there's no talking me down when it comes to the Ti-Babe's welfare. So, I'm buckling up for what's promising to be a sleepless night for us all including, heads up, Daddy...

Kindness of St. Francis of Assisi who will please watch over our li'l Pilge and Lolls and help them to have a peaceful night's sleep. Mummy will take some of that too pleaseee...XXOO

What'chu Talkin' 'Bout Willis Hat Back On

Back to the 'splainin board cuz it's evident from yesterday's comments and emails that quite a few people are scratching their heads at our rental lifestyle...

From our li'l Farmington estate cottage during the Med School years in C'ville, through our G'town weensie but cute condo stint, to our current 70's furnished, vertical blinds and 30 year old stained carpet beach house digs, Babe and I have made a conscious decision to rent...

We are big believers in prioritizing and, throughout our marriage, have seamlessly worked as a team keeping our priorities aligned...

And, while we have dreams of someday owning and having me break the bank decorating something all ours, we understand that if that is what we made our priority in the short term, that is what we would get...

Sooo, when I ran out of my pretty Preppy Cards mailing labels back in December, I didn't place a reorder solely for one reason; if our goal was for Babe to make a career move and land his dream job but, I was planning on living here at the beach long enough to utilize all these labels, my thoughts and actions weren't aligned. Capiche?

Now you know...as we begin our search for yet another estate cottage/carriage house (use of the tennis courts and pool always welcome!) in Greenwich it's cuz we've got Gin Lane bigger fish to fry...

Disclaimer: Sorry for any confusion in yesterday's post but the house pic'd was the Greenwich home and front door of my good friend Dorli whose father said, "whoooo??? NO!" SLAMMMMM!!! when Billy Joel's peeps came a callin'...

Kindness of Babe for not breaking out in a cold sweat as he sneaks a 9pm West Coast time peek at today's post and sees me revealing a trade secret in my 70's, free love, Kelly Killoren Bensimon-ish, uncomfortable for his buttoned-up self way. Love you Babe! Hurry home to me, Pilge and Lolls here at the commune...XXOO

Next Stop...

My Babe imposed gag order has been lifted and I am now allowed to spill the beans that he has started a new job annnd...WE ARE MOVING!

I can't believe we're moving to the very same town where my good friend Dorli grew up in this home after yeeeaaars of having her retell me stories like the time her father asked, "Whooo??? NOOO!" and slammed the door in the faces of Billy Joel's people when they knocked seeking permission to film the River of Dreams music video from a boat with her house as the backdrop...

And, how her mother wouldn't allow them out after dark following the death of Martha Moxley cuz there was a murderer on the loose in town...

It's the town where I'll be just a 20 minute drive from my cousin Melissa and her family in one direction and a 20 minute drive from this li'l hombre in the other...

Yup. Babe's très hard work has landed us a gig in Greenwich, CT. But, not til I'm ready to hang up my beach house spurs at the end of the summer, natch...

Kindness of Babe who is generously continuing to live the planes, trains and black car life for three more long months just so that I we can eek out our summer lease at the beach. And, Monty Morris for keeping his snout sealed as promised and Maxminimus for not following through on his threat to "tell effing everyone"...XXOO

In Memory Of Grandpa Flynn

Babe's Grandpa Flynn had a motto; to live a fulfilling life, you need to exercise your mind, body and spirit...

And, as a graduate of MIT, who enjoyed solving differential equations as a weekend hobby, an avid runner, diver, skier, surfer and triathlete who was still competing and winning well into his 80's, active in his church, often running the predawn, 6 mile round trip there on Sundays just to turn the coffee on, it sounds as though he spent his 92 years doing just that...

Kindness of my father-in-law for sending me my favorite picture of Grandpa Flynn...XXOO

One Petra, Two Petra, Three Petra, Four...Five Petra, Six Petra, Seven Petra, Or...

Yes, I am très fortunate that these are the things I get to lose sleep over; Whiiich Sheridan French Petra Tunic do I want to pair with my white AG Stilts to achieve my Eastern Shore version of tenue de ville for a Memorial Weekend soirée?

The Lavender Ice...

Exotic Lime...

Or the A La Mode? Looks like the sold out Gods may make my decision for me as it appears I am a latecomer to the quite popular Sheridan French party. Note to self: place your order befooore sharing with the good taste masses via post...

I owe BLC at The Company She Keeps a heap of thanks for saving me valuable time by making my Neve Dress decision for me. Now fingers crossed as I plow through the list of Sheridan French retailers to track down a size 6 in Sugared Sunset...

Kindness of Sheridan French for helping my decision making impaired self with Petra color choices yesterday. Annnd flattering me with size XS and S assumptions. Only in my Diet Coke/Insanity dreams Sheridan...XXOO

Hermès Benadryl Dreams

It's gonna be Benadryl lala land for me momentarily due to yet another drug allergy. Babe's right, I better hope I never come down with a severe infection cuz I'm quickly running out of meds that my body doesn't reject...

It's très small window of time between popping a Benadryl and goodnight Gracie pour moi so, I'm throwing up my Hermès lust item du jour, ordering a salad from Oceanside and setting up camp on the sofa. And, as my itching is slowly starting to subside, and my lids fall to half mast, I'll end on my Click H Narrow Bracelet in purple enamel thought. Orrr, as the Matters of Style gals refer to it, my enamel Click-Clack...

Kindness of Hermès for taking under consideration the addition of a Medical Alert ID bracelet to their enamel lineup...XXOO

Let's Try This One More Time...

I told myself I wasn't allowed to buy the Kindle 3G til I finished plowing through all the books on my nightstand...

But, that was before I found out Plum Sykes' new mini-memoir, Oxford Girl, was being released as a 'Kindle Single' in celebration of Amazon's new fashion site...

All Kindle buying discipline goes out the window when it comes to tales of "living like the Mitfords" and a "childhood of faded grandeur"...

I'm such a sucker for anything Plum Sykes to begin with. Add "poverty-stricken debutantes" to the mix and it's helloooo Kindle time pile o' books or no pile o' books...

Kindness of Babe for sending me the Oxford Girl
intel. Annnd for the Kindle 3G I'm about to purchase...XXOO

Friday The 13th Indeed!

Sure was Friday the 13th around here! Badly cut my middle finger on a tin can, sat around twiddling my thumbs (and injured digit) waiting for the mail to deliver the Chloe and Reece dress Kimba overnighted me to borrow for Babe's grandfather's funeral which, of course, didn't arrive til an hour after I left town, annnd blogger shut down losing all of Thursday's post and most of Fridays...

Not sure if I'm up and running again, so we thought we'd keep it short and sweet til we know for sure. Gives us an excuse to crawl into bed early and finally read May's Town & Country with the juicy Stephanie Seymour article. Hope to see you AND my missing posts in the morning...

Kindness of Kimba for killing herself to get me her lovely funeral appropriate dress even though I ended up in my black J. Crew trousers which caused a bad allergic reaction from the dry cleaning fluid. I'm just now emerging from my weekend long Benadryl coma...XXOO

Move Over Oprah, There's A new Giver In Town

Looks like Oprah isn't the only gal making her living from generosity...

Every morning, once the breakfast rush ends with the squirrels, Lolly heads from her hostess stand at the sliding door to her second job on the East side. East side of the porch that is...

Seems our li'l Kackleberries has made a girlfriend of the cottontail sort and they spend hours together every day...

And, much to Daddy's chagrin, Lolly has decided our Angel Network is to supply pricey, Organic produce to our new woodland bestie...

YOU GET AN ORGANIC CARROT! YOU GET AN ORGANIC CARROT! YOU GET AN ORGANIC CARROT!

Kindness of Daddy who underwrites our li'l soup kitchen. Looks like we may have to set up a peanut and produce endowment for the beach house renters that follow once we move out...XXOO

Add A Bikini To The Mel O Queue Please!

I've been stockpiling my Melissa Odabash Summer '11 selections for a couple of months now and the Equador in purple, Evita in white annnd cheetah, and Luxor in navy are ready to roll. I pretty much thought I had my Mel O selections cinched up...

Til I read this tweet...

Wait, the Brazil is India Hicks favorite Mel O suit???

Back to the virtual hoarding shopping cart for the Brazil in black 'twas and another Melissa Odabash number has been added to the Summer '11 queue. And, I swear I'm not just saying this cuz it's India's favorite (although that is sooo something I would do) but, it's at the top o' my bikini heap. Flattering, sporty and beyooond comfy. Queue up the white!

Kindness of shopUSA@odabash.com who will, fingers crossed, find me the Brazil in the Imustnowhaveitin white too...XXOO

My Mom, Style Icon

Like Piper Weiss, author of the book, and blog, My Mom, The Style Icon, I am sometimes shocked when I run across old photos of my mother looking stylishly glamorous...

Whatever happened to all those lovely pieces and why are they not now hanging in my closet?

L-R my Mother and my Aunt Carol
Do you know what kind of moola Babe I would fork over for a jacket cut just like that? Not to mention, I once paid $500 for a pair of Ralph Lauren shoes identical to that purse. Annnd, we now know the genesis of Hilbil's ham routine...

L-R My Papa, Uncle Stephen, Nana, Aunt Carol and Mother (MIA Uncle David away at Boarding School)
Why, oh why, did you insist on wearing the bottle green corduroy skirt with the mismatched panels that was my ninth grade Home Ec project when you could have been showing up to school dressed like this? I earned a "C" on that skirt for a reason...

L-R My Mother, Papa, Uncle Stephen, Nana and Aunt Carol (that Boarding School apparently strict on leave)
I want to know the whereabouts of that hat, those gloves AND that charm bracelet. Do you see this Kathleen cuz it looks as though Aunt Carol's been pulling the bamboo handled wool over your eyes too. And, is that ahhhh needlepoint purse Nana's carrying? NevermindIdon'tEVENwanttoknow...

L-R My Mother, li'l moi and my Father
Sigh...I'm going to have to go across the Pond in hopes of ever finding a pair of white kidskin gloves trimmed in red. But, donuts to dollars that Home Ec catastrophe's still hanging in the closet...

Kindness of my Mom for knowing I jest. I mourn but, I jest. I may not have the heirlooms but, I thank you for, from all accounts, dressing me so expensively when I was little. Babe, ESPECIALLY thanks you for that. And, as part of your Mother's Day gift, I've submitted your picture to Piper for posting on My Mom The Style Icon blog...XXOO

The 21 Club

The girls headed home for the summer yesterday although, Hilbils is continuing north to Cornell, like a good girlfriend, to root on Rob as Penn plays Harvard in The Ivy League Men's Lacrosse Championship...

Meanwhile, Emma has a whole month til the also recently initiated into Club 21 Sally returns from Greenvulle and they can test drive their new credentials together at the beach...

Their whopper of a weekend in Charleston celebrating Sally's milestone will have to last them til June...

When Lucy and Ethel are reunited...

At least that'll give Sally an entire month to recover from the Charleston hurrah where she valiantly fulfilled all 21 items on the birthday checklist Emma thoughtfully crafted in her honor such as...

#7 Tell someone you voted for Obama

Annnd...

#21 Go home with someone

Kindness of Sally Atwater for being such a good sport! And, Hilary for accepting the pager her Mommy, bff Kimba and I are about to bequeath her as our on call DD for the summer. We have a feeling Emma's social schedule will no longer allow her to fulfill her duties...XXOO

ps...Good luck Rob and Penn!

Swimmer's Hair (aka, Capt'n Crunch Or Simba Helmut)

Hi Alice! I have a question and I thought you might be able to help. My daughter has just started swim team and she is so excited about it although, I am a little worried about her hair. She is already getting split ends and it's impossible to comb. We're getting it cut to chin length sometime this week and I was hoping you could point me to a shampoo and/or conditioner that might also help fight the damage. Her hair isn't like yours and mine. It's light brown and wavy, not straight and blondissime. So if you have any advice I would surely appreciate it!

Thank you,
Mamacita (your friend in Houston)

What Would Jane Austen Do

Ahhh, yes. The ole swimmers hair o'straw. Remember it well. Although, back then my Dad bought whatever shampoo/conditioner was on sale at the time which, made for a mostly Breck, Finese and Pantene rotation. Not to mention, we dried our post pool hair under those horrid wall mounted locker room dryers. Thank goodness by the time I took up Masters Swimming and Beach Patrol I knew better...

I highly recommend Kiehl's Olive Fruit Oil Collection...

As well as their Amino Acid Collection which, has been in my haircare lineup for nearly 20 years...

You must incorporate a bi-weekly deep conditioner. I used Kérastase Masquintense for fine hair ritualistically every Monday and Friday for yeeeaaars and, just recently switched to their version for highlighted natural blonds. Although, if she's swimming outdoors you might consider the one they make specifically for sun and chlorine exposed locks...

And, all us beach babes in the family use either this wide tooth Mason Pearson comb...

Or this one, in the shower to gently comb our conditioner through. She'll have nary a knot, I promise...

And, be a generous Mummy and spring for the T3 Tourmaline Overnight Dryer. Those wall mounted things should be outlawed...

Kindness of Babe who now finances all my fancy hair care needs. Although, if I'd had a nickel for every lady that stopped my young chlorine helmeted self to tell me my hair looked like spun gold, Babe would be freed up to funnel those funds towards more pertinent items of the Hermès sort...XXOO
