Sip, Shop & Share

The Lilly Pulitzer Ardmore, PA store is hosting Sip, Shop and Share this Wednesday to benefit 10 month old Baby Julia who is fighting brain cancer...

Everyone is welcome to attend and phone in orders are accepted as of right now. If ever there was an excuse to buy Lilly, this is the one. It certainly sent me scrambling back to the Lilly wish list drawing board in a jiffy...

And, I have until the store's opening bell tomorrow to narrow down whether I want another heavily complimented on Easter Whitley Skirt, this time in the Multi Dashing...

Orrr...that print in the would look spiffy with my new white AG Stilts Jonni Shirt?

In my book, shirts barely count as an item since they're only half an outfit, so that's reason enough for me to round it out with the Benicia Top to make it feel more complete...

But, then there's the Cindy...

And, the Adelson both in Hotty Pink It Can Be Arranged tugging at my heart strings...

The UVA Sunrise Orange Jacqueline to feed my C'villian loyalties...

And, the Tate Skirt in Bright Navy Look at me steppin' outta my new whip Lady. Regardless of what I chose, I'll feel like a million bucks in it cuz I'll know it helped a little girl who needed it...

Kindness of everyone who can stop by the event or make a purchase, no matter how small, over the phone to help Baby Julia. Purchase or no purchase, all are welcome to stop by Julia's Caring Bridge page to read her story and leave an encouraging comment for her parents and big sister Isabella. And, of course, prayers are invaluable...XXOO

Furry Spiritual Guides

This past weekend Ellen, aka "I Love Lime Green", emailed me about a seven year old female Flame Point Himalayan that was up for adoption at the Bethesda Petsmart. My heart immediately broke for her and after a long conversation with her tender I went weeping to Babe...

Alas, sniffle, sniffle, we can not bring an adult cat into my sister's beach rental. So, if there's anyone in the DC area, who can make a good home for a furry angel that requires regular grooming, please call 240.497.1350

Since my hands are tied in this situation I'm headed over to a place that was near and dear to Templeton's heart, Angel's Gate, to assuage my disappointment by helping some other lovable critters in need...

If you can get past the first 15 seconds of the producer's très scary choice in branding music you'll understand why Angel's Gate meant so much to Tatsie's caring and generous heart...

So, in his honor, Pilgie and I are looking at a few things on their wish list including wee wee pads and baby wipes for Sydney the Lab...

A donation for Bootsie, who was born without lower hind limbs, towards her much needed reevaluation and new hinged orthotics...

Orrr...some diabetic supplies for Babette...

I'll have to wake up nutty butty to confer on what we should give...

Hope his Highness realizes how good he has it lying there on his 600 thread count French linens...

Kindness of Ellen Garrity for all her legwork on behalf of the sweet Himmy up for adoption. I may not be able to become her Mummy but, I'm honored to stand in as fairy Godmummy til she finds a good home...XXOO

Hostess With the Mostest Generosity

Bff Kimba in Charlotte sent this note out to the 25 guests she and hubby Bryan hosted for dinner this past Saturday night...

Of course, being the humble friend that she is, she did not mention this part of her plan leading up to the dinner during any of the gazillion phone calls between us. Cuz, if she had, I would have insisted on complete documentation for a post. Instead, I mostly heard how her lemon of a Viking dishwasher was not going to be fixed in time for clean up duty...

So all I have are her generous intentions and three lousy pics none of which depict what I am sure was as a glorious spread and shots of their just completed outdoor kitchen. But, what I can offer, minus the terrific idea, is a snapshot of the hostess in pink pants, a teensie glimpse of hubbie Bryan in the white shirt and a smidgeon of the new patio...

The evening was a huge success in more ways than one and even the small guests came bearing piggy banks. They raised nearly $400 for Feeding America all of which Macy's matched. Hey Kimba, maybe you could've just put the dirty dishes AND the muddy kids on the lawn and killed two birds with one hosing?

Kindness of Bryan and Kimba Howlin and family for their doing their part. Also, kindness of her friend Shannon Aveson for contributing the only three pics of the evening to the post cause...

Help Make Summer A Verb For A Kid

I joke about toughing it out at a public pool but, in reality, I am extremely blessed to have unlimited access to my lovely G'town pool when not lounging at the beach. Please, read below, and join me in supporting Bruce Main and Urban Promise in sending an inner city child to the pool for a day. Your Starbucks drinky will still be there in the morning...

I was visiting Camp Grace (one of UrbanPromise’s seven-day camps) just the other day and was reminded of the harsh realities of life in the inner city when one of my camp directors, Tony, pulled me aside.
“Bruce, our camp attendance drops 50% on Fridays,” Tony whispered.

“Why?” I asked, as I looked around to see nothing but smiling faces—kids jumping ropes, drawing pictures, singing or just hanging out with counselors.

Tony paused, leaned closer to my ear and whispered, “Our kids can’t afford the money it costs to use the pool. We usually go swimming on Fridays but it costs $7 dollars,” he lamented.

“Can’t afford it!” I nearly shouted.

“No, Bruce. It’s because the State Parks keep increasing their fees,” continued Tony. “and there are no public pools left in the city. There are no other options.”
“We can’t let that happen," Tony, I said. “I made a promise to those kids. I’ll write some of our friends,” I assured him. “We’ll get the money!”

So, here I am writing to you, for I am certain that the last thing you and I want is for Tony’s campers and others to stay in our hot and crowded city…just because of a mere $7 pool fee.
Just think, for the cost of a latte or a bagel, you could delight a child with a whole day at a swimming pool this summer.

Please consider sending one, two, three--or even four--of our children to the pool this summer. I thank you in advance. I know you will want to help.

Dr. Bruce Main
President

Thanks for helping and have a great weekend pooling or beaching it knowing you've done the same for a child. Or more!!! XXOO Allie

April Food Day

Although, I love talking about, shopping for and buying lovely items, at the end of the day it's just stuff. And, as exciting as it seems when the UPS guy raps on my door with a much anticipated delivery, we all know that it's a short lived high and then we're on to the next conquest. Not so when you're giving or helping someone in need; that's a good feeling that never quite dissipates.

Right now our nations food banks are being depleted at a rapid rate and they need our help. I am asking all of my fashionable prepsters to make a donation, even if it's just $1, to help those less fortunate than us. Please go to Feeding America to donate and to www.aprilfoodday.blogspot.com to read more about this dire situation. We are all in this together, preps and nonpreps alike, and together we can make a difference.

Trust me, the feeling is better than a new pair of Louboutins!

Kindness of Easy & Elegant Life and Pigtown*Design.
