Canfora du Joura

While I was making like the Swallows of Capistrano migrating towards summer with my Mexican preview, another scout team of swallows was just returning from Capri with selections to consider for this year's addition to the Canfora collection...

My sister Julie got the Irnia Turquoise last summer during our joint purchase and I swooore they were to be my very next pair. Of course, at the time I meant next as in next week...

Unfortunately, Babe discovered my plan to double dip and all mustache twirling ceased. So they are now slightly tainted by disappointment. Thinking I may temporarily shelf them for the Ivana White...

Orrr, the Ivana Turquoise since I've gotten so much wear out of my pink pair...

I had mentally queued up the Sagira Silver Multi as the Summer of '11 pair but, that was prior to youknowwho uncovering my Summer '10 house of cards strategy. Now I feel like they're coupled like a pair of Foxhounds to the Irinas and I couldn't possibly get one without the other...

Then there's the Layla Pink which have recently moved up in my virtual Canfora ranking. Welp, I have til Easter to decide since I had the hair brained idea to give up shopping for Lent. Note to self: next year stick with chocolate...

Kindness of the bff Kimba for gently letting me know it was time to start rolling out the summer goods even though I'm in "look but don't touch" lock down. Unfortunately for you, this sacrifice does not extend towards workout videos so, when you're packing that li'l spring break suitcase, be sure to pack your gear cuz me and my
Insanity DVD's will be awaiting your arrival...XXOO

  1. You do realize that your little no shopping self foray in virtual terms is keeping your inner shop girl secretly locked up whilst fine tuning your skills. Not that you needed any help with the tuning or tanning.

  2. Oh, and anything that can serve it up and dish it out does not count in the shopping hiatus.

  3. Irnia Turquoise are TDF. Drooling. Only way that giving up shopping for Lent has worked for me for these past three years is that I always order a bunch of things immediately beforehand so I get new goods and then halfway thru it's my birthday.

    adding these to the list!

  6. I love, love, love both of the turquoise!

Nothing says Lenten sacrifice like delayed sandal gratification.

  11. Love. Another must have. Gee, thanks. :-)

And now, dear Alice a completely O.T. post:

I need some decorating advice from you and your tres knowledgeable readers:

I decorated my library/office with a nautical motif in mind. I had a navy and medium/light blue striped cornice with thin stripes of white fabricated and under laid with white sheers. Brazilian cherry wood floor and cherry bookcases complete the room, with the exception of fab lighting. Unfortunately, I had the walls painted a hue close to navy blue which renders the room unpleasantly dark and not at all what I envisioned. Can anyone say dreary?

I would be able to change said decor (with the exception of the quite nice bookcases and flooring) except I purchased a lovely desk chair in &*^%^$#! navy leather instead of my original choice of beige, as well as a sisal rug (fine in and of itself) but also bordered by navy. I desperately need to change the wall color. Anything except white or ivory or any variation thereof.

Your suggestion, as well as those of your readers is most welcome and greatly appreciated.

  12. Gosh, we've been renting for so long I feel very out of practice with home design but, I'll toss out a few blind suggestions. First of all, Ralph Lauren makes that beautiful seagrassy/straw wallpaper that is one of my all-time favs. I also think many of his plaid and tatterall papers could work. If you prefer to stick with paint I'd suggest either a warm khaki (but make sure it has a base compatible with your cherry wood), the lighter (but not baby) blue found in blue and white porcelin orrr keep your navy and use one of Ralph's paint treatments to distress for a salt air aged effect. Très nautical...XXOO

  13. Hi Are the sandals available in the states? How does the conversion work for price? The web site says they are not returnable! Are they true to size? thanks

  14. Only available from that one source in Capri. And, just go on google for a currency conversion chart. But, just a heads up, that once in a blue moon customs will ask for an aditional $60. This has only happened to me twice out of about 10 orders and I have no idea what triggers it. Also, all mine run very true to size. And, I wouldn't wory about returns. They are so beeeyonddd gorgeous the thought would never cross your mind. They're like art for your feet...XXOO

  15. Thanks for the excellent advice. I've had seagrass you mention in one of my homes and it is a bear to have removed. The walls beneath had to have a lot of prep work done post removal, but I do love the look. (the workmen on the other hand....v. dramatic eye roll) It is beautiful though. I will look into the RL papers, although I neglected to mention there is a navy/white herringbone fabric sofa I had made for the room as well. Any wallpaper or paint will have to compliment all of this blasted navy! And while khaki is certainly an option, I've never heard of the treatment paints you mention. T/Y.

Additionally, although the furniture and floors are cherry, they read more walnut (especially the book cases). Does this change anythong from a color perspective, in your opinion? Sorry to run off the rail of this topic yet again!

  16. Raplh always mixes plaids and stripes. And, you just need to take a sample of the wood in when picking/mixing your paint color so the paint pro, or your designer, can make sure the color you pick has the correct base. Some are yellow based, some are blue based, ect. So the base of your paint color needs to be compatible with the undertone of your wood. And, honestly, I think navy is probably one of the easiest colors to work with. It's like black, it just goes with everything. Including black! Now, I am bowing my amateur self out...XXOO
