Easter Finds

I unearthed 3 discoveries during our Easter jaunt to the beach. The first was that I DO like Riesling. It just has to be an outstanding Riesling.

My parents served Dr. Wagnor Ockfener Bockstein Spätlese German Riesling with a cheese board and it was dee-ee-lish. Paired with a blue cheese...heaven....I most definitely will be adding this wine to my stable of favorites.

The second thing I was all over were these pretty enamel pendant necklaces that my nieces found at the J. Crew outlet. I think they retailed for $24 but were marked down 20% plus my sister received her additional 15% teacher discount.

Fortunately, my sister is heading back to the outlets within the week so I have placed my order. For both, natch. Also, props to Hilary for resurrecting the shrimp ring!

And lastly, I discovered that some things never change. Emma and I are likely to be dressed alike, and Hilary (affectionately known as Paris) will always be inserting herself into every shot.

  5. Do you like your revas? I've have 2 pairs and they hurt my toes. Maybe I need to give them another try? Am loving the gold. Thanks - abbie

  6. They only hurt my feet if I walk great distances in them, e.g., from G'town to Dupont Circle, or a full day of hardcore shopping thru East Hampton. But mostly they're fine and the leather ones have way more give than the patent. My measuring stick for shoe comfort is my 15 yr old classic Ferragamo's - the most comfortable dress shoe on the planet.

  8. Now, back to the wine - Wagner make indeed a decent Riesling, and I am happy to see that wines from the Saar region in Germany have made it on to the radar of the discerning few even on the other side of the Atlantic. If you can manage to avoid the 95 percent German supermarket wines that are utterly revolting, the remaining 5 percent often offer an excellent value for money and really exciting fresh summer drinking.
One even better producer from the Saar is Zilliken; try them out if you can get hold of a bottle - www.zilliken-vdp.de.
