She loomed big on Friday night...
And, by Saturday night she had taken our beach...
But, the water's receded, the sun's back out and Babe and I are going to try and salvage the remainder of our last weekend at the beach...

The only real damage incurred from Irene was to my tan and diet. Sooo, all's well that ends well, except for summer, natch...
Kindness of all who tweeted, texted, emailed and FB'd their concern and well wishes. Pshaw, I've seen Nor'esters pack a bigger punch. Off to eat the last crabs of summer. Take that Irene...XXOO
I couldn't agree more! We had a nor'easter down here in May that was way worse than what Irene brought. It just ruined my last weekend of summer...le sigh! XO
ReplyDeleteSo glad it wasn't as bad as it could have been. Enjoy what time you have left at the beach!
ReplyDeleteGlad to know y'all made it okay! XX
ReplyDeleteenjoy the last verbs of summer.
ReplyDeleteSo glad to hear all is well! Enjoy the last bit of summer.
ReplyDeleteYou showed her who's boss! Glad you fared well, brave stormrider.
ReplyDeleteGlad it went fine! I stayed inside most of the weekend in DC to avoid the possibility of being hit by tree branches. How did you decide to stay in place (just curiosity from a hurricane newbie)?
ReplyDeleteYou're very lucky - so many more folks up and down the east coast didn't fare as well. Enjoy your last few days a the beach.
ReplyDeleteGlad to hear all is well. It was just very windy after the storm passed. I went out for a walk and donned my new Patagonia Pelage jacket. I didn't think I would put it on until October.
ReplyDeleteGlad y'all were okay! It hit us pretty hard--most of the city is without power and lots of trees are down, but we are all okay! Soak up some sun for me these last few days!
ReplyDeleteWe decided to ride it out based on my experience, combined with that of other trusted locals, on what kinda punch this thing was gonna wallop. After a lifetime of hurricane experiences at the beach I've become seasoned at extracting the showman from the true weather footage. That said, we didn't take the decision lightly and would have never taken any great risks. Well, at least Babe wouldn't :)
ReplyDeleteIrene was a bust here too, thankfully!
ReplyDeleteI did get to wear my sou'wester hat, so all was not lost.
Glad you are ok...and from what I have seen, your tan will survive, even WITHOUT this past weekend's exposure to the rays.
ReplyDeleteLook in the mirror...aren't you tan enough? ;-)
So glad you survived! We are still without power in Annapolis. Enjoy your last weekend! xoxo
ReplyDeleteI'm glad y'all and your area are okay, however, the punch has occurred in other places, such as the flooding in Vermont and here in our Outer Banks in N.C. with large parts of Hatteras Island cut off from anything.
ReplyDeleteAnd to think it could have been worse had it not downgraded. It could have stayed a Category 3 that hit the Bahamas.
Glad you are safe and sound! I'm afraid many others did not escape Irene's fury. xoxo
ReplyDeleteAm glad that you experienced no costly home damage, power outages, or flooding that so many people throughout the East are now experiencing. Enjoy the beach but am concerned if your dermatologist has ever advised you to go easy on the sun.
ReplyDeleteHave ya ever met a derm guy/gal who didn't think the sun's rays emanated from Satan's lair??? :)
ReplyDeleteSo happy your area was safe from the storm. You cannot reason with hurricane season, this much I have learned in my 41 years on the Gulf coast. Have a great week and enjoy the last "official" days of summer. I'll be cooking my skin until at least October-early november. :-) XOXO
