Grandpa Flynn's Day Of Honor

On Monday, Babe and I attended his Grandfather Flynn's interment at Arlington National Cemetery...

A Naval Officer, and graduate of MIT, Mr. Flynn's early electrical engineering work helped to develop electronic countermeasure (a radar jammer for us laymen) thus, saving the lives of countless soldiers, seamen and airmen during World War II and beyond...

This honor is an incredibly moving ceremony to witness and I feel privileged to have to have been a part...

Maurice E. Flynn, Jr., LCDR
November 6, 1918 - May 10, 2011

Kindness of Grandpa Flynn for keeping us safe. Annnd, for passing along some of those brainiac genes to my commanding officer...XXOO

  1. Seems to me you've posted about this gentleman before? Looks like he received the honor he deserved. Watched the video, and it does bring a lump to one's throat.

So sorry for Babe's (and your loss)

  4. We're honored that you shared this with us. I still think of the photo of him on the high dive you posted. Amazing man. Isn't Arlington something that is difficult to put into words?

  5. Very interesting...Babe's grandfather was a contemporary of my father, who worked as a civilian for the military during WWII in D.C. intercepting and de-coding messages from the Japanese.

Those pictures of the rows of white stones in Arlington get me every time. A fitting tribute to Mr. Flynn!

  7. That rendition of "Taps" is stunningly beautiful.

Everyone should visit Arlington and see the changing of the guard at the Tomb of the Unknown. The ppl who make up the guard and burial details are amazing.

    God bless.

  8. Sincere condolences. It's a pity that the "Greatest Generation" is dying off. And they are called the ""Greatest Generation with reason. Today's citizenry, to a great extent, doesn't know what personal sacrifice, responsibility and love of country means. These men certainly did.

  9. Thank yo for sharing this, that version of Taps is so beautiful and so hard. Today my brother emailed me a PDF of our father's WWII service record, they were such an extraordinary group of men. Hugs at you.

  12. Military funerals are amazing... My boys' father passed away in late August. He was an officer is the Army and the caliber of soldiers who take part in the service is amazing.

So sorry for Babe's loss. I know you have been a rock for him...

  13. I'm sorry for your loss Bevy. Was he killed in action? If he is the father of your boys, then he must have been young. Josh's grandfather was in his 90's and led a long, rewarding life. Not quite the same heartbreak as losing someone young...XXOO
