Hamlet Ponders Gold Lamé

Too much...

Or, not too much?

That is the question...

Kindness of QBS, my li'l sis in all things summer, for weighing in with her gold lamé expertise. If you saw me prancing round the CC peeeuuul in this number would you think, aging bathing beauty still clinging to the 80's? Orrrr, would you jockey for the empty lounge chair next to moi eventually working up the nerve to extend a cannonball challenge? One scenario ends with sun kissed chlorinated skin, laughter and T&T's by the diving well, the other with just me, my tears and a bottle of Tanqueray...XXOO

  1. I really would detest it and find the farthest pool lounge to sit with a friend and scorn... But you asked! I do like gold but not at all this bikini... Your lobster party pics were cute and fun - love that gingham shirt!

  2. P.s. Forgot to say, totally makes me think 80s Ivana Trump - final word :)

  3. Reminds me of those tacky ones they sell at American Apparel for like $15. I'd stick with the white bikinis you love so much.

  4. Great follow up to the ice cream sundae post.

  6. Difficult to pull off, dare I say, even on Mrs. Chris Martin. Probably better on a tall, Somali supermodel pre-Bowie. Must be accessorized with bangles on the upper arms and sky-high platforms so really not at all for beachwear.

  7. L-O-V-E this and you. I'd be honored to share gossip over T&Ts with you, though I fear I'd have to do cannonballs to get some attention as you'd be in the spotlight in this amaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaazing find.

super flattered to be your lil sis in summer as you're the Patron Saint/High Priestess of Summer in my eyes!

  8. Hmmm. Where've I seen that before....

Yes! Catherine Middleton's deal-closer ensemble, the only other thing you'd need to catch a prince [even though you already have one] is...see for yourself:

  9. Like the American Apparel comment. Probably hard for just about anyone to pull off and maybe not quite country club appropriate? Now if you are planning a trip to Brazil...

  10. I agree that gold is generally tacky and this could be disasterous but really, with your figure, blonde hair and deep tan, I think you could "work it" quite well! I don't think many others could but I am confident you would "knock it out of the park"!

If nothing else, you would surely shake up the swimsuit fashion world of Greenwich!

  11. Hmmm. Even a summer goddess with a great tan and an insanity-tized shape would look (dare I say it) tacky. Sorry, but you did ask your readers.

  12. It would have worked for Mexico, but a little "Jersey Shore" for here. Definitely not for Greenwich dear. Stick with white, it'll fit in great there.

  13. Too much; definitely too much! I do like the white ones you usually post like someone said above.

  14. Tacky unless you're from Brazil.

I imagine there would be a lot of snickering in Greenwich about it.

  15. Allie,
Step away, and put the lame' down.
I said step sloowwwwly back and leave the lame' alone.

NO - especially for a sporty, classically pretty and naturally good-looking girl like you.
It would defy and put into question, your well-honed, good taste.

Remember what they say about bad hair (Einstein) making even the smartest person look not so smart.......well you know what I mean.

I wonder if the reflective quality, in theory, works like aluminum foil for catching rays?

The T&Ts, on the other hand, bring 'em on.....make mine a double. XO

  16. It would have an unwelcome spot on the spreadsheet.

  17. If anyone can pull if off, you could. That being said, save it for a trip to a foreign country and stick to classic white- you are so pretty as it is....this is "gilding the lilly!" plus the grande dames would never let you forget it in Greenwich.

  18. i have to say that this is the most fun that I have ever had in your comments! These are some FUNNY girls!!! Dying to know where ADG weighs in on this one - he's a hoot! Miss and Love you AW!!! Xo

  19. Oh no no no. If anyone can pull THAT thing off it's ME. Easy breezy to snap the lugs on this goldie oldie. Matter of fact, I'm at home tonight practicing my strap snappin' moves...highly nuanced as they are...there's always room for incremental improvement.

And where do I weigh-in on this rig? Kinda like Belgians. If you're gonna wear it, you better do it with confidence and aplomb. But NO swagger. This thing swaggers on the hanger. And finally, the Butt Police will react to this rig just like the Highway Patrol responds to a red Ferrari. Handle this endeavour properly or like the owner of said red Ferrari, your gonna be a BP ticket magnet.

    Thank you.

  20. Hahaaa...I know Meggie. That poor, never hurt anyone, li'l gold lamé number has been pelted with mud, kicked while it was down then hung in effigy in the Greenwich Town Square for good measure. I've been highly entertained all day. And, I can tell ya what ole Max's thoughts are, a bikini is a bikini is a bikini ;)

  21. Sorry, but since you asked...am cuing Madonna.

  22. @ HoosaPrep- Tacky even if your from Brazil.

  23. Go for it! This probably goes against all my instincts, but I find it v. hot. And I'm sure other red-blooded males will too. If that's your objective. And other ladies will simply be jealous, especially Greenwich dames (with whom I'm quite familiar) who these days sport the large frames of their Middle Eastern (via Long Island) forebears and are unlikely to look hot in anything at all.

    ReplyDelete
  24. A definite no, especially on the Delaware shore!

    ReplyDelete
  25. The Greenwich dames I know don't spend a moment being jealous of anyone. They are thin and tan (primarily due to tennis) and for the most part blond WASPs. And gold lamé would only garner a NOKD glance; your looks are the Greenwich archetype and gilding the lily is never recommended. However any of the white bikinis you normally sport would pass muster in spades.

  26. Now, how did that "'re" not post? Odd :-)

  27. I seem to recall Barbie has a bikini like this! So, what did you decide? The reader responses have been quite entertaining!

  28. Toootally entertaining. And, it's en route via armoured car and scheduled for clandestine Fenwick and Ixtapa reveals. Shhhh...XXOO

  29. There is probably a very good reason why this suit is 65% off.....

  30. Why that golden girl needs it's own reality show!

  31. I was thinking of your post last night while watching an episode of The Closer. A murdered rapper had just made a music video with lame bikini clad girls in it. I think that sums it up.

  32. Lamégate Update: The gold lamé bikini arrived yesterday and received many a boo hiss from family members as it was pulled from it's armoured box. Buuut...once it was modeled they changed their tune. When the fabric stretches when donned, it lightens a shade and the garishness goes down several notches. That being said, it will be a Mexico wear only with one or two Fenwick debuts under consideration. But, only on a weekend. And, only at the height of my tan :)
