TTFN...

The definition is posted at the very top of my blog...

Summer - verb (used without object)
To spend or pass the summer.

my brother Keith, second from left, OCBP circa '93

And, that is precisely what I plan to do; spend the summer wearing out my welcome at my parent's beach house. Spend warm, June mornings cracking the Insanity whip with the bff. Spend quality family time dining al fresco or playing tennis without being tied to my computer...

I want to pass this glorious summer reading stacks of books and needlepointing at the beach or pool. Pass the evenings taking one of Babe's legendary long walks fine tuning our hopes and dreams while the sky's ablaze with the setting sun...

I want to pass these next three months breathing in the salty air and letting my mind shift towards future goals...

While this is not farewell for good, 'tis farewell for the moment. Sooo, to the night shift nurses in Brooklyn who look forward to my 12:01am postings, to my father-in-law who now uses a Mason Pearson brush and can recognize a Reva at 5 paces, to the plastics doc who loves our Lolly and reads posts between surgeries, to my mom, when in Mexico, and Em and Hilbils, when in school, who like feeling connected to the family while miles away, to my most unprep, polar opposite pop-alternative bass player in AZ, to the West Coast gal who asked for the RSS feed I never got around to embedding, annnd, most especially to moi, who will not wake up to a bunch of compliments under the guise of "comments" waiting in her inbox each morn, I'm sorry to leave y'all hanging...

But, what a fruitful three years of posting this has been. Old friends, new friends, and, for the rest of my lifetime friends. Thank you to everyone mentioned above, thank you to dear friends who encouraged me, thank you to Mel for inspiring me, PVE for guiding me, and everyone for reading me, thank you to family who waived privacy, thank you to the other bloggers who regularly commented when I couldn't find time to reciprocate and, muchos, MUCHOS gracias to Babe and the Ti-Babes for fronting the whole gig...

So, ttfn. I'm off to summer...

Kindness of everyone for not completely abandoning ship with my hiatus. I'll still be lurking around Facebook, flooding Twitter with the Ti-Babe's mugs and coveting per usual on Pinterest. And, who knows, I may go through major attention withdrawal and be back for a fix. But, for the time being, I've got some other fish that need fryin'...XXOO

  5. You have a fantastic summer, Madame von Summer is a Verb! I tan vicariously through you (my northern European genes allow only for "white" or "off white"). Off to have a look at your Pinterest now...

  7. This is not a surprise...you haven't really been "into" this for quite a while, which is a shame for us, but things and circumstances change! At least you've bid us farewell...Mel just totally stopped posting, and doesn't answer queries on Facebook!

    Enjoy your summering...I've enjoyed reading!

  9. Egad this was a sad way to wake up this morning! You are my all time favorite prep. Like another Anon above, I've tanned vicariously through you. Some of my best purchases have been your recommendations and I've cursed Mint.com in your name. Kindly make this a hiatus rather than a farewell because so many of us love your joie de vivre as well as your keen sense of humor. Enjoy your Summer, sweet Allie, even the Insanity part, because it is on your terms while we all learn to wait patiently for more SiaV. xoxo

  10. So, um, where's your parent's beach house....just in case we all go into withdrawl?

I read your mention of Jon to him in the locker room....he took it like a man.

    You know how we feel...

    Warmest regards, Kathleen

  14. Sad for us, fabulous for you. But your post is a reminder that we should all focus more on living life, relaxing and taking one wonderful day at a time. I'll hope for shopping tips on twitter and foursquare.

  15. This is sad news. I sometimes read your blog at 12:02, but I didn’t last night. Glad I waited till morning. I shall certainly miss you and look forward to your return. I too have done a lot shopping upon your recommendations and lord knows that oyster dressing is to die for. Thanks for that recipe!! So, while you are summering, please pop in sometime and give us an update. I’ll be summering right along with you, except it’ll be at a NC beach!! Have fun!!

  16. Wow. Blogs seem to have a definitive shelf life and then they become a tedious chore. I only (sort of) follow about 6 blogs and you're the 4th person in the past two weeks who has decided to give it up. Good for you.

It'll be a matter of time before people get bored with Twitter too...

    Have a good summer.

  25. Alice, my morning commute is going to be much less eventful, but good for you for deciding you need a break. I've been reading you since day 1 while in college and now in the real world - your writing is such a great escape.

Luckily, for me, you are around the corner - speaking of, I need to return your books! Such a treat having them for the past couple of months. Hopefully I can still run into you here and there.
    All the best.

  26. Alice,

As the expression goes: "Say it aint so!" Can you maybe make it a weekly blog, instead of a daily and still enjoy a great summer ! You will be missed by a lot of people, who enjoy your adventures, suggestions and wisdom !

Don't let Pilge forget that there is an older, elegant Himalayan girl cat who has had a crush on him for YEARS and she'd be happy to take him to the hotspots of upper Wisconsin Avenue next time he ventures to DC. I am sad but do hope you will pursue writing...and let the cats start their own blog.

  34. kudos for engaging in summer the verb: enjoy, enjoy, enjoy. but i can't lie: i have a little lump in my throat!

perhaps this all just serves as a good excuse to rendez-vous in new canaan/greenwich for dark 'n stormies the next time i'm down. at the very least, we'll rendez-vous over on twitters for, among other things, a little shoptalk in the form of organe pony products.

    xo to you!

  55. I was sad to read your post yesterday, but I completely understand. I have lived vicariously through you at the beach the past few summers. I was at Sunset Beach, NC myself this past weekend. As I often am outside as much as possible, your post re-inspired me to be outdoors this summer, living inland as much as possible, when I'm not at thing called work. But the plus to working where I do work now at the university, is it's summer, and it's very slow, so it's not very demanding. Evenings will be spent outdoors, such as at a soccer match like last night, out on the back deck, etc. Definitely enjoy your summer, as I know you will.
Your blog has definitely become an internet reference site for me, so I will still probably visit it often to read through old posts for reminders, etc.

  56. Well, I'm disappointed that I won't have your thrice weekly posts to read, but you certainly don't owe us anything! This has been such a fun read; I do hope you decide to return in the fall! Best wishes - a longtime lurker...
