Stocking Interruptus...

Just a momentary interruption in our regularly scheduled Stocking Series for some under the gun puffer shopping...

As soon as this illustration came over my Crackberry late Wednesday night from Pigtown Design Meg, I realized my North Face puffer wasn't gonna cut the Paris mustard. I hastily shot off an urgent email reminder to myself for the morning. The message simply read, Searle...

Sooo, 48 hours later and I've narrowed my choices down to the Searle Rabbit Trimmed Down-Filled Coat in black minus the horrid belt and belt loops which would immediately be tossed and chopped...

And, the Searle 3/4 Length Pillow Collar Down Coat in black (not pic'd). The clock is ticking but, my objective good eye is across the pond operating on only 2 hours of sleep so, it's time to call in the backup big guns. Kimbaaaa...Amyyy...

Kindness of Meg for snapping me outta my boot reverie and getting my mind fully back in the packing warmly for Paris game while I still have a fighting chance with shipping...XXOO

  1. I know you will make us proud. I cringed on a trip many years ago while in Paris at several ugly Americans. Please take lots of photos for us of your trip. Love to see it from your eyes.

  3. Can't go wrong with either of these coats. Nice, pleasant and the new "winter uniform" of North America. However, it isn't creative and it isn't parisienne.

  4. I agree with 8:46 AM Anon. Pleasant enough but you will be identified as American instantly.

However Searle is a nice choice. I would either go with Steve Hooded Alpaca or else the Spanish Shearling Drawstring. Both are pretty, warm and versatile.

  5. Something to try to avoid the "american on vacation" look?
A wool coat and a long fur vest on top.
    Great boots.

  6. Both of these are great ... but, I would go with the first one. Nothing wrong with looking like an American, as long as you are a stylish one. You will look nothing less than tres chic in whatver you choose to wear. And ...you will be warm and comfy!
    Bon Voyage!!!

  8. Call me boring and practical, but I prefer the second because it has a hood. Overall, they are both tres chic!

  9. I am in trouble now that I have found Desigual coats by way of the Searle website.

  10. Europe is amidst a crazy ass cold streak. But I've gotten on just fine this time of year with a Barbour Beaufort with layers underneath. And by the way, the Paris Butt Police are tres aggresive.

  11. In NY Mag's fall 2010 style issue Michael Kors did an interview and briefly discussed French dressing vs. American dressing. He talked about when he was in Paris one time and "saw a girl coming down the rue du Faubourg Saint-Honoré in a plain pair of trousers, a turtleneck, and a pair of slingback shoes, and he thought: Finally, a Frenchwoman I can relate to" It was actually Aerin Lauder. There is nothing wrong with being a well dressed Americaine prep in Paris.

  12. Anon - you missed the point. Kors thought Lauder was a Frenchwoman; nothing about her ensemble was overtly American.

  13. I've been in Paris for four days now and you can be assured that you will not be instantly identified as an American if you are sporting a black puffer coat. It is cold and wet and everyone is dressing for the weather. Puffer coats are everywhere. My Ugg Belclouds are keeping my feet toasty, dry and comfortable and my BCBG puffer is divine. I have not worn anything else and I don't plan to! I am sublimely happy with my choices and glad that I spent so much time finding the perfect outerwear. Paris is great this time of year and we are having so much fun!
