And, 'tis the season for my true prep hickness to shine. I rounded up these shotgun shells after a dove hunt one year and hustled them home to make Christmas tree ornaments...
All it took was some (as in, I'm not versed in tool talk) sharp tool I grabbed from the tool box, handsome grosgrain ribbon, et voilà...
My expansive collection of hunting and fishing themed ornaments could outfit the White House Christmas tree, if ever they should decide to go that route...
All of my beloved beasties are in doggie heaven but, I still honor them each year with the tree I made them. Missing Milk Bone on lower right hand branch courtesy of Ginger, my late English Pointer...
Milk Bone dog biscuits, a li'l raffia and a tartan bow tie. Annnd, a shelf life of nearly 15 years and counting...
Pshaw! Stars atop the Christmas tree are so pedestrian. I much prefer my gold gilded antlers...
A bit of florist wire and a lot of patience. Although, I do recommend securing the tree to the ceiling and closest wall with some fishing wire. Otherwise, if that thing were to topple it could be ugly...
And, in the spirit of preppy hickness, I'm stuffing these Smathers and Branson Pheasant Needlepoint Coasters into EAS's virtual stocking...
Kindness of Babe who will please, please, puuuhleeeze figure out why my computer's not communicating with my scanner this weekend before he jets off to Tokyo so I can share the pics of my Martha Stewart Gingerbread Manse. I have no aspirations of becoming a Tech Prep...XXOO

And, slipping this Stubbs & Wootton Needlepoint Camo Duffle under her virtual tree. Not to worry though, cuz I'm leaving plenty of room for orange boxes...

There is not one ounce of hick in you.....
ReplyDelete;-)
Now your talking! Love this post and the theme..
ReplyDeleteMay I suggest that you can also take a string of white bee lites and make a great shotgun shell light string. You just use a razor to put a small "X" slit in the side of the shell and stick the light in....use alternating red and green shells and they look great!
Some of us prefer the term "Prep Necks"...:)
ReplyDeleteGrosgrain and shotgun shells...the perfect “Prep Hick” combo! I never took you for a DIY girl...I am a very impressed! If I made JCW a set of those babies no other gifts would be needed. We actually have a few sets of the shotgun shell lights but they have remained in the closet for fear of clashing with my Neimans ornaments. I adore the antlers and that milk bone tree is darling. Here’s to all of our beloved pups that are no longer with us and to always keeping our red necks covered with Hermes scarves! xx
ReplyDeleteYour decorations are darling. I love that you still display your dog bone tree. Though any tree decked with the smallest of puppy treats wouldn't last a second in my house.
ReplyDeleteFriend: Hit up Target, they have the feathered pheasant ornaments again this year...
ReplyDeleteLove this! And those needlepoint coasters are the epitome of preppy hick chic!
ReplyDeleteSo great!!
ReplyDeleteWe awaken to the sound of gunfire most mornings around here 'til about mid-January.
I love the shell ornaments! Is it wrong that I want to cut up my great grandmother's old mink and make a tree skirt? It's so fragile I can barely wear it and I think it would make a divine addition to the tree.
ReplyDeleteOh yes. Oh yes. Up North they might call this Rural Prep. You know, update New York? Maine? Western Massachusetts? Been there. Done that. Shot some skeet. That is a LOUD sucker of an activity. The antlers are a touch of genius.
ReplyDeleteNelle, I think the mink tree skirt is a brilliant idea! Stay tuned for an upcoming post on how the bff took her Aunt's full length mink and had it tailored by one of Martha Stewart's guys into a cashmere lined bed throw...XXOO
ReplyDeletePrep-billy :)
ReplyDeleteOh so enjoyed this post!!! Hubby is a HUGE hunter and there was much inspiration in your decor!! xo HHL
ReplyDeleteYee-hah, love this, it helps validate my inner hick! (Or 'Rural Prep,' as Miss LPC puts it, a lovely term.) I think this is where I talk about putting the worms on the hook and personally cleaning the catch... and the skeet shooting, etc.
ReplyDeleteNot so much now that we're approaching decrepit-ness (?), but oh yes indeedy, we do revel in our outdoorsy activities.
Fab post!

Love, love this! Have you seen the gifts and jewelry via dixiepatches.com? One of my favorite companies!! Merry, merry day to you! Xoxo
ReplyDeleteWell, sure, but do you have fly fishing lures and antique bait boxes on your tree? Those, too, are key to prep hick aesthetic.
ReplyDeleteMy husband and son would adore the outdoorsmen Christmas ornaments, but I am laughing over the dog bone tree. Luckily you have kitties now.
ReplyDeleteI may have to do a few of these next year at the bf's family cabin! Love the idea of the antler topper. Adore that duffel as well! ;)
ReplyDeleteAllie, you continue to amaze me. If I had known you were out there I would have made sure Babe had a swimming accident at that lifeguard stand.
ReplyDeleteDown here a further southeast of Richmond, (and for that matter at the homestead out southwest of South Boston) my family calls it country prep or southern prep.
Gotta love those dog biscuit Christmas trees, I told the wife about that one. Now, the golden’s want their own tree and the cats want one with “nip” hanging from it.
So... where are the pictures of the completed tree!
