Cuffie Commandment

According to Maxminimus, when dealing with cuffs one should "go big or go home"...

Two inch cuffies or no cuffies at all! thundered from the burning bush in front of Casa Max...

That sure was fun trying to communicate to the couple who barely speak English when I dropped off Babe's new Bills Khakis 11 Whale Corduroys for tailoring. BEEEG? Yes, BEEEG. Max said BEEEG...

And, although I love the cords so much that I am champing at the bit to order Babe another pair in Sage, I think I'll wait and see how this initial tailoring of BEEEG turns out. I may be knocking on the door of Casa Max with a BEEEG cream pie not for eating...

In the meantime, I'll spend the next few nail biting days til tailoring's complete trying to earn my North River Outfitter 20% discount towards the Sage, or replacement Khaki, pair...

Kindness of ole
Maxminimus for the 2 inch cuffie edict. I'll take my thank you for the PR in Butt Police credits. Considering my injury and all...XXOO

  2. I'm very thankful right now that one, hubs buys his own trousers cause I'm hopeless with menswear and two, he would never ask me to take them in for cuffing... if they came cuffed or didn't, that's how he'd wear them and he might not even notice the difference. haha You are a dedicated wife! hahaha BEEEEG!

  4. Sorry to disagree with Maximinimus but my bespoke-wearing hubby would CRINGE at those cuffs. Certainly they are a matter of opinion and while the keeper-of-the-butt-calipers oft has some dandy-fine looks that extreme cuffage takes those gorgeous windowpanes and the perfectly fine cords in a direction that veers a little, well, dowdy.

And sleeve cuffs? Only if you're prepared to sit on your pot of gold at the end of a rainbow. Just sayin'.

  5. I had no idea DH needs to go beeg or go home on the cuffs! Note to self!

  6. Max was joking in his fuzzy dice sort of way. 1 & 5/8 inch cuffs are the only way to go. Two inch cuffs only work if you also wear bright yellow socks and green penny loafers!

BTW, Barbour makes good wide-wale cords also.

  7. "Ladies, ladies, please! Shimmer is a floor wax AND a dessert topping."

I will play Unofficial Ref here and intuit that Maxi is passing along his classically de trop--as the French say--fashion taste. Style is all about what works for you...and for some, Maxi especially, making a statement with subtle aspects such as cuffs is part of that style.

    Vive la difference!

    (Just my off-the-cuff thoughts...)

  8. The two-inch cuff manifestation requires the necessary elan to wear it without any tentativeness. Honestly, an additional 3/8 on top of the standard manifests greatness, not dowdiness nor an overly fuzzy construct.

And sleeve cuffs...don't go there. They are tres post-doctoral in a world where most citizens are, at best, Sartorial Associates Degree possessors.

  9. For my inseam challenged husband, 2 inch cuffs would turn those pants into 11 whale corduroy Bermuda shorts.

  10. Please, DO NOT go the way of two or three inch cuffs. Trust me this is not the Preppy or WASP way. Stay with the tried and true, one inch and a quarter, yes, one inch and a quarter. I know that it sounds small, but trust me it is the only proper size. It gives your man the right look without drawing too much attention.

  11. Thought of "Summer is a Verb" when I got my word of the day email this morning:

    estivate \ES-tuh-veyt\, verb:

    1. To spend the summer, as at a specific place or in a certain activity.

  13. My husband has many trou with a 2-inch cuff, many with less. Depends on the pant, the fabric, et al.

    Is this horse dead yet?
