Allie And Emma's Tricks Of The Diet Trade

Monday is the kick off day for "Summer Diet 2010"...

Right outta the gate Emma and I are slinging the big guns with a two day fast to get us in the right frame of mind and start the ole stomach shrink...

I've also ordered a months worth of Shakeology shakes to replace my midday empty calories meal of pretzels and Diet Coke. Okay, okay...maybe just the pretzels. I haven't gone completely nutz here...

But, what Tony doesn't know about my P90X Diet Coke crutch won't hurt me...

Lastly, two fab finds from my friend Amy, Celestial Seasonings Bengal Spice herbal chai like tea...

And, Mighty Leaf Chocolate Mint Truffle tea...

Add a smidge of skim milk to either and you've got yourself a lil dessert. At least until the weekend when aaanything goes. Diet rule #1 according to Allie and Emma...

Kindness of Amy for finally recommending a tea that doesn't require me to cross an ocean to enjoy. I'll join you for a Belgian mint tea one of these days Ams but, for the moment, I've gotta stick with what's on the Teeter shelves...XXOO

Jules Reid Score

I finally got to meet the gorgeous Jules Reid at her Sherman Pickey trunk show this past weekend...

I hope Jules forgives me if I seemed hasty with my greeting but, do you see all those racks of frocks?

I needed to get myself into the dressing room pronto!

After about an hour of trying on just about everything, Babe voted for the très Jackie O Peony dress in Blue Dots...

While he generously handled my purchase I stayed in the dressing room scheming...

Scheming and plotting how to eventually get my greedy paws on the Flowing Kimono in Elephant Love Blue...

Annnd the Montauk in Light Blue Ikat. Never quite satisfied. Beginning to understand my parents years of frustration...

Kindness of Babe for being sooo very generous with me, per usual. Also, for letting me know that my hair looked like I had been through a wind tunnel after pulling about 20 items over my head before snapping my pic. As a provider you're getting a promotion, as a photographer, you're fired...XXOO

If any of you lucky ducky New Yorkers make it to CK Bradley's Cocktails & Trunk Show report back in with your field notes please!

Too Much Fun

We're real tuckered out here after a long weekend at our home away from home, the Fairfax in DC. We dined out, dined in, swung by the Jules Reid trunk show, caught up with good friends, hit up our old cupcake haunts, tortured Babe with endless Glee videos at Amy's and had multiple celeb sightings including John Walsh, Adam Duritz, Emmy Rossum and Dhani Jones...

So, excuse us while we get our P90X groove back on, hang our new Jules Reid Peony dress in our closet and do our penance for all the naughty eating and shopping we did the past several days...

Kindness of Pilgie for making room on Tatsie's favorite blankie for his Mummy to curl up too. How many more days til Daddy comes home to coddle us? XXOO

Passing The Belgian Buck

There are now officially no boxes rolling around in the back of any UPS trucks making their way to moi. At least, not at the time of this posting. I'm gonna have to re channel all my shopping energy into gittin my skinny back. Juggling two disciplines at once, oy...

So, I will thank you, ADG, to not wave your Belgian wearing foot in my weak in the knees for Belgians face...

Orrr, pics of your Belgian wearing friend's feet...

Cuz, if I break down and order myself these coveted babies...

And, throw in this pair too because, if I'm in I'm all in. I mean, if I'm gonna have to pay the piper I'm gonna make it well worth the grief...

Unless...do you think Babe would fall for this exhumed $25 a pair advertisement you also felt obliged to send my way?

Highly unlikely, sooo that leaves gathering the above photo evidence and passing the Belgian buck. If I play this blame game juuust so, I could be licking my doghouse wounds in a shoe closet like this while Maxminimus scrambles to clear his name as persona non grata with Babe...

Kindness of ADG who would be wise to keep one eye open while dining al fresco at Cactus Cantina on the weekends. Cuz if there's a drive by Belgian Shoe pelting you will want to sheild LFG. And, your martini, natch...XXOO

Happy Birthday Nana

This is a post I ran on May 14th of last year. Due to popular demand, and a campaign waged by ADG over at camp Maxminimus, I am re-running it in honor of my Nana...

Since the 14th of May is my late Nana's birthday, I thought I'd share her infamous obituary with you. Written by my mother's brother, my Uncle David, it debuted in Raleigh's News and Observer but soon gained international notoriety.

The News & Observer, Raleigh, NC:
ON JUNE 3, 2005 at 10:45 p.m. in Memphis, Tennessee, Dorothy Gibson Cully, 86, died peacefully, while in the loving care of her two favorite children, Barbara and David. All of her breath leaked out.

The mother of four children, grandmother to 11, great-grandmother to nine, devoted wife for 56 years to the late Ralph Chester Cully and a true friend to many, Dot had been active as a volunteer in the Catholic Church and other community charities for much of the past 25 years.

She was born the second child of six in 1919 as Frances Dorothy Gibson, daughter to Kathleen Heard Gibson and Calvin Hooper Gibson, an inventor best known as the first person since the Middle Ages to calculate the arcane lead-to-gold formula. Unable to actually prove this complex theory scientifically, and frustrated by the cruel conspiracy of the so-called "scientific community" working against his efforts, he ultimately stuck his head in a heated gas oven with a golden delicious apple propped in his mouth. Miraculously, the apple was saved for the evening dessert. Calvin was not.

Native Marylanders and long time Baltimore, Kent Island and Ocean City residents, Ralph and Dot later resided in Lakeland, Florida and Virginia Beach, Virginia. Several years after Ralph's death, Dot moved to Raleigh in 2001, where she lived with her son, David.

At the time of her death, Dot was visiting her daughter, Carol in Memphis. Carol and her husband, Ron, away from home attending a "very important conference" at a posh Florida resort, rushed home 10 days later after learning of the death. Dot's other children, dutifully at their mother's side helping with the normal last minute arrangements - hospice notification, funeral parlor notice, revising the last will, etc. - happily picked up the considerable slack of the absent former heiress.

Dot is warmly remembered as a generous, spiritually strong, resourceful, tolerant and smart woman, who was always ready to help and never judged others or their shortcomings. Dot always found time to knit sweaters, sew quilts and send written notes to the family children, all while working a full time job, volunteering as Girl Scout leader and donating considerable time to local charities and the neighborhood Catholic Church.

Dot graduated from Eastern High School at 15, worked in Baltimore full time from 1934 to 1979, beginning as a factory worker at Cross & Blackwell and retiring after 30 years as property manager and controller for a Baltimore conglomerate, Housing Engineering Company, all while raising four children, two of who are fairly normal.

An Irishwoman proud of and curious about her heritage, she was a voracious reader of historical novels, particularly those about the glories and trials of Ireland. Dot also loved to travel, her favorite destination being Eire's auld sod, where she dreamed of the magic, mystery and legend of the Emerald Isle.

Dot Cully is survived by her sisters, Ginny Torrico in Virginia, Marian Lee in Florida and Eileen Adams in Baltimore; her brother, Russell Gibson of Fallston, Maryland; her children, Barbara Frost of Ocean City, Maryland, Carol Meroney of Memphis, Tennessee, David Cully of Raleigh, North Carolina and Stephen Cully of Baltimore, Maryland.

Contributions to the Wake County (NC) Hospice Services are welcomed. Opinions about the details of this obit are not, since Mom would have liked it this way.

As you may see, I do indeed come by this honestly, for the tongue-in-cheek apple doesn't fall far from the tongue-in-cheek tree...

Tenley D'été

Last summer my CK Bradley Tenley became theee item d'été and I rarely peeled it off my back...

It saw multiple hotel closets...

Gallivanted around NYC...

Celebrated the 4th...

Closed out the summer...

And, wrapped up the post season with a final hurrah in Montauk before heading off for a beverage soaked second life at Furman...

So, when I was having trouble deciding between this year's Tenley offerings, (waxing and waning between the Island Bluebell and the Moroccan Purple, really liking the green best but, knowing it was too much like last years uniform, vetting outside votes for the Island Navy), I picked up my Crackberry and went straight to the big cheese herself; one Camilla "Tenley Makin" Bradley...

"OK. since you wear last years a lot, the island navy is most similar in coloring, but different enough still if you like those colors. i LOVE the island bluebell, and the next option after that would depend if you want more fun, less sophisticated. i am into solid prints these days (shocker) so i would err with the purple moroccan, but you may prefer the island coral....or the island navy." ckb

thanks so much camilla! had just decided on the bluebell so now i feel validated in my choice. moroccan purple was 2nd place. thank you!!! XXOO moi

"ah...great minds. now i want to see pics!" ckb

Ahhh, you want pics? Well, that's all the excuse I need to officially pronounce this "Summer of the Tenley II". Stay tuned for lotsa over wear...

Kindness of Camilla Bradley for taking time out during "selling her tail off" at a Bronxville trunk show to throw me a Tenley lifeline...XXOO Think Babe Would Kill Me If I Got One In Every Color Richardson

PS...Jules Reid will be at Sherman Pickey this Saturday!!!

Her "Fashion is Passion" trunk show will be the place to be from 10am - 6pm so, be there or be square. And very left out...

Tisk Tisk Yourself Funnyman!!!

Last month when I posted this picture, ADG, in true smartypants fashion, left me the comment, "just noticed vertical blinds...tisk tisk..."

Haaahhh...It's a beach house rental Mister Fancy Slippers and, trust me, there are worse decor crimes being committed in this 70's pad than the verticals. But what, may I ask, is your excuse for having a FOOT TATTOO??? Hellooo Belgian wearing pot, meet kettle...

Predictably, yaaawn, taunting followed with pics of Pier One sisal verticals...diagnosis that my "emotional wobbliness", although mostly grief, was laced with "vertical blindness"...and another below the needlepoint belter about how I could have replaced those verticals with the $$$$ I spent at "bikini town"...

Max, Max, Max (I've dropped the "y" outta respect)...maybe ya should spend less time on your "verticals" skit and a smidge more time on replacing those WIRE HANGERS!!!

Yup, it's aaallll fun and games til somebody needs a sponsor cuz their custom Ralph Lauren pants arrive and they realize they may end up on A&E's Intervention. Don't look at me bub, I've vowed to go cold turkey after my Pucci spree...

And, if you do end up on the 5th floor at Sibley, for goodness sake don't mention that I helped you find the sold out Lilly Daiquiri Pink Ten Ton shorts! Your "fourth cousin in consuming" AllieVonSpendaGrand does not, I repeat, DOES NOT have a problem. I just shop socially...

Kindness of Maxminimus for giving me more fodder than I could ever possibly use. Fortunately, I'm a master story weaver as well as world class consumer. Now, excuse me while I go get under my "rental house viscose-dacron comforter" and go to sleep...XXOO
