Come And Knock On My Doooor

Maybe it's the 70's decor in my sister's beach house rental. Or maybe it's all the Suzi Chapstick like pics Camilla Bradley's been posting on Facebook in her ski onesies and hair pieces. Whatever it is has put me in some kind of a flashback mood...

I said it before, and I'll say it again, I think it's going to be the Lilly sleeper item of the season and I can NOT wait to get my Chrissy Snow on with the Mira Jumpsuit...

P.Y.G. (pink yellow green) makes this Mara Hoffman bikini passably preppy. Post P90Xhaustion bod, natch...

Dr. Babe will have a heart attack but, I am thinking of slipping a tube of that famous orange gelée into my beach bag this summer for ole times sake. SPF 4? Pshaw...

Making some room next to the Kiehls bottles for this blast from the past. One wiff and and all the memories of OP's, Lacostes and teenage angst'll come flooding back...

Chrissy Snow may have gotten all the glory but it's Mrs. Roper that's really near and dear to my bohemian heart. I can already see Babe doing his "groovy arms" impersonation when I break out this Jules Reid flowing kimono...

Omg did we go through this Indian Earth Bronzer freshman year. One bottle, like eight girls and one very orange sink. Throw in some Revlon Pink Zinc lipstick, some Bread playing on the turn table and it's the eighties aaallll over again...

The original status candle. Oh Riguad, how I've missed theee...

LeSportsac resurrected by Lilly P??? A collision of hipness!

Kindness of loyal reader Janine for the heads up on the LeSportsac reinvention. May be just the bag for toting my Bain de Soleil orange gelée to the beach in. Also, helps to keep one foot in the preppy door when trotting my new bikini across the dune..XXOO

  1. Did you ever use Sun In? I can still picture me spraying that crap on and lying in the sun. And very few things take me back like the smell of Herbel Essence Shampoo. Remember the see thru bottle with the green shampoo? I find a lot of these old products at Vermont Country Store catalog. It's like a trip down memory lane. Good times.

  2. I am so going to find some Bain de Soleil for our trip. Thanks for the reminder. After three day of conditioning in the sun with a higher SPF I will sneak out the orange gelee. Best tan ever with this stuff.

  6. You 'unearthed' Jen's Earth bronzer, Allie! What an '80s excavation. Now if we could just find it's most committed wearer.
To add to the scent memories: Ralph Lauren "Lauren' perfume, Cacharel Anais Anais and of course, Chanel Cristalle. Fun flashback post! xo

  8. GeeYHSTerrific - I used to prop that bottle on my dressing table after washing my hair & dream of my bedroom being decorated to match the hot pink, PeterMax-ish bottle - Oooo, the flowery, spicy smell makes me weep......in a good way.

Then there's "Agree" shampoo - in the light green bottle - not nearly as fab looking as GYHST, but that SMELL transports me - mid-70's & all things teen, that smell is Summer'78, yuuuummmmm! ! !

Flex shampoo, by Revlon - another MmmmMmmm, GOOD! ! !

I practiced on myself, using my aunt's IndianEarth Bronzer (while also using her very cool globe/ball mirror ...hard to describe). She is a couple years older & let me play in her stuff ALL the time....as a matter of fact, it was HER Agree shampoo I liberally bubbled up with.....

Now that BdeS song is stuck in my head:

"Bain de Soleil fo' thaa Saaaaan Tro-paaaaaaaay taaaaan...."
"Bain de Soleil fo' thaa Saaaan Tro-Paaaaaaay Taaaaan...." "Bain de Soleil fo' thaa Saaaan......."

    I'll stop now.

  10. Dear Allie,
Do you remember those plastic oval hair clips with the sliding bar in the middle? To be worn with a shetland sweater of course. I remember when Le Sportsac had a store in Water Tower Place and feeling that I had to have one in every color. I also remember my mom wanting to kill me for swiping her Indian Earth jar and then accidently dropping it on the white tile in the bathroom. Thanks for the blast from the past, Denise

  12. My mom had that Earth bronzer when I was a kid and I totally turned myself into an Oompa Loompa once.. after seeing the pictures, I was so afraid of ALL bronzers that I never started to use bronzer again until about 3 years ago! hahahaha

  18. Yikes, I, too used baby oil as my non-spf back in the day.

Many of the items you listed can be found through the Vermont Country Store. They have a great catalogue to look through. Memories. . . . .

  19. Great post. Bring back the 80s! Crank up some Flock of Seagulls! Bring back Ronnie Reagan.

But as a guy, perhaps we should not bring back OP shorts for guys.

    Chrissy Snow - good.

    Jack Tripper - no.
