Kindness of the bff for noting my generous consideration of her feelings however INSANE they may be. Sorry, sorry...guess there's a wee touch of residual bitterness left for having to edit my wardrobe of a beautiful yellow Steven Stolman skirt cuz it had MONKEYS WITH CLOTHES ON IT. Okay, okay I'm composed now. Anything for a bff she said definitely NOT rolling her eyes at yesterday's birthday girl...XXOO

The Way To Future In-Laws Hearts Through Their Stomachs...
You've been so helpful when I've had a few questions in the past, so I'm hoping you can help me with this problem of grand proportions! I am setting up my boyfriend's parents with a gift basket for their anniversary and I want to do a delightful little selection of upscale nibbles along with a copy of Midnight Feasts (already ordered). And, they don't necessarily have to all be food items. The problem is that I'm just stumped as to what to put in it! A little help...
Desperately Trying to Appease the Future In-Laws Stomachs,
Paige
Well Miss Monograms and Margaritas, one option would be to pull one of the recipes from Midnight Feasts and outfit the basket with the ingredients needed. Otherwise, I've conferred with the bff and we've culled together a list of our fav kitchen must haves. Hope this helps...
This task was enlightening even for moi cuz I had no idea Kimba swore by Fini Balsamic Vinegar...
I did however, get the memo on the Williams-Sonoma 5 Pepper Blend Peppercorns...
I have already placed a Cucina re-order for my fav Fig and Savory Flower kitchen hand soap...
And, dish soap for next week's move back to the beach house...
As well as loaded up on Williams-Sonoma khaki and cream dish towels...
We've been relying on the vanilla my mom
The bff's numero uno pick for your basket...
But, we're both in agreement on Trader Jo's and WS's pop-up sponges. Love em...
Fleur de sel, or flower of the sea, salt is a staple...
And, I guess it's the smidge of Baltimore gal in me that's loyal to Honeycup Mustard. Fabulous in a vinaigrette and found at any Whole Foods...
While you're at Whole Foods getting your mustard be sure to grab a bottle of lavendar oil too. Every kitchen should have a some on hand for burns. Pilgie and his li'l healed mitts can attest to that!
Thank you to Amy Fahrenkopf for my newest obsession, Bengal Spice Herbal Tea...
Hands down the best honey ever is Golden Angel's Raw and Unfiltered Tupelo. I had a local source when I lived in C'ville but, these days I'm not past making Babe drive me 45 minutes to find some when in the city. It's one of the three items he teases me about "choppering in". The other two being my Old Chatham Maple Sheep's yogurt and FEED granola...Kindness of the bff Kimba for once again helping me to cobble together a post. When your up to your eyeballs in moving chores it pays to have friends with fabulous taste and culinary wits...XXOO

My High Note
Long live the Queen!
Style icons? Jackie O and my friend Dorli's mother, Coco. They exude thee most harmonious blending of sporty American and European élan that has taken me yeeeaaars to cultivate. It's that perfect storm of tan limbs, pearls and old khakis with Pucci, Canforas and Hermès kerchiefs. Toss in Carolyn Bessette Kennedy's love of the Petit Bateau tee and Mrs. Roper's fondness for the caftan and you'd have my ultimate fashion love child...
Design philosophy?
- Art takes priority over furniture in our house. A Kevin Fitzgerald feeds our soul way more than having enough seating ever could.
- I'd rather go without than settle. Which would explain why my bedside RL lamp is sitting on the floor while I continue my search for the perfect nightstand.
- Learn to live with your beautiful things. Lolly has made a p/t job of perforating our linen headboard with her nails but, I far prefer being awakened each morn by her sweet, post scale crowing to having a hole-less headboard.
- Don't invest in large pieces if there's still some apartment dwelling in your future. We learned this the hard way when our over sized white sofa wouldn't fit through our G'town front door.
Babygirl working those Roger Vivier flats with the perfect accessory...a killer tan!
Praying to the Scarf Gods that Babe lets her go in the Paris Hermés store unsupervised.
![]() |
I mean...is she serious with that hair and that tan? Keeping people safe never looked so good!
Biggest indulgence? Yves Delorme 500 thread count bed linens and botox. Both cost a king's ransom, require a lot of maintenance and once you've indulged, there's no turning back.
Girl crush? Oh, I've already put in my request to come back as Gwyneth Paltrow in my next life. She's the whole pretty, smart, refined, funny, talented package. Not to mention best buds with Valentino and Reese.
Favorite song? The bff is gonna scream foul if I don't cop to Bruce Springsteen's Tunnel of Love. That song played on a loop for so long when we were living together in our early 20's that I'd place money on her insisting it be worked into my funeral procession should she outlive me. I'd like to take this opportunity to request she also add Skynard's Tuesday's Gone and The Ballad of Curtis Loew to the lineup.
Prized possession? Well, I've experienced a plane losing it's lift and several, middle of the night fire alarm awakenings so, I know firsthand that your true prized possessions, where your immediate thoughts land, are your loved ones and pets. Buuut, just in case my luck should run, out I formally bequeath my 13 pair of Canfora sandals to my size 9 niece Emma.
Nothing better than a blonde with a dark tan wearing an armful of pearls and gold!
Motto? It's the accumulation of many small decisions over time, more so than the few big ones, that ultimately chart the course of your life.
Being so fabulous is exhausting!
Favorite drink? Water. Such a surfer answer.

If this were a picture of either of us, we'd blow it up to life size and hang it in our homes in the path of maximum foot traffic. It would also be every year's Holiday card, forever.
Kindness of West Coast girls, Julia and Allison of Tartan & Sequins. Weirded out, are y'all for realz? It was an honor. A feather in my cap. A cap that I will no longer be able to leave the house without if I want to keep your hip rendering of moi intact. I'll become the Greta Garbo of the blogger world. All incognito in my Hermès kerchiefs and Jackie O shades, making Diet Coke and Megamillion ticket runs just to keep the myth alive...XXOO

Things We Wish We Knew When We Were 19 Remix
Things We Wish We Knew When We Were 19 + a year...
It's the accumulation of many small decisions over time, more so than the few big ones, that chart the paths you take in life.
Be grateful for every thing no matter how inconsequential it may seem. Being grateful attracts more things into your life for which to be grateful.
There is a difference between being tenacious and swimming upstream. Learn to distinguish between the two for one leads to success and the other to frustration.
Work daily on your relationship with God, even if it's just a simple "good morning" and "good night", for it will provide you with a level of peace, security and contentment that no person can give you.
You still get a great tan wearing an SPF 30 and doing so will save you a fortune at the dermatologist later in life.
Whether it's a hairdresser, manicurist, trainer or masseuse, never hesitate to voice your requests, concerns or discomfort. YOU know what's best for you, not them. Also, they are not your therapist so expect that anything you divulge will be repeated.
Be curious about the habits of highly evolved and successful people and apply them to your life.
Yoga is good.
Exercise your physical talents as often as possible cuz the day you realize you can no longer do that gainer off the diving board you will experience a sense of loss that's like a death.
The face, neck, and back of hands are the first places a woman shows signs of aging so take particular care.
Spend time with your grandparents and ask lots of questions because when you get older you will develop an insatiable curiosity about your heritage.
There really is such a thing as karma. You will get back exactly what you put out.
Incorporate breast self exams into your shower routine. Just like shaving and deep conditioning it should become a biweekly habit.
Your family loves you and cares more deeply about you than anyone and always has your best interest at heart.
Trust your instincts for they are an invaluable tool. If something doesn't feel right, it usually isn't.
Excessive drinking does lead to terrible decisions and consequences. You'll will also come to appreciate that the first cocktail is always the best. The ones that follow are just chasing a ghost.
Outward appearances mean nothing if you are not grounded and confident. It is never enough just to be a pretty girl.
No boy is worth pushing your values and instincts aside for.
Although 'tis always nice to give people room to grow, most personalities are set by first grade. Adjust your expectations accordingly and you will save yourself a world of hurt and disappointment.
Your grades and study habits will shape the rest of your life and provide you the best opportunity for a life of independence and success.
And, the adults were right; everything in moderation is best, time does heal all wounds and, this too did pass...
And, in honor of another year, may I add;
"The woman who follows the crowd will usually get no further than the crowd. The woman who walks alone is likely to find herself in places no one has ever been."
Kindness of the bff Kimba for collaborating with me on this post. Of course, her contributions are easily recognizable as the more eloquent words of wisdom. The ones with the bitter, hippie bent belong to yours truly...XXOO

Pair O' Blues
My Jules Reid Leo blouse in Daisy Stream Turquoise just arrived and it even elicited an ohhh and ahhh from the bff during our recent show and tell. I've declared it theee item of my Summer '11 wardrobe and predict trottin' it out at least once a week...
And, since I need a pair of blues from Jules, I've got a hanger cooling it's heels in the closet awaiting the arrival of the Wyatts in Dragon Print Ikat...
I've been drooling over KEP's Maggie earrings for quite awhile and even more so now that I saw the bff's during her show and tell. But, I've been torn between the turquoise, which goes with more in my summer lineup...
And, the sapphire, which are just too pretty to pass by. Sooo, a pair 'tis...
The bikinis have stared rolling in and my inner Helen Roper is craving a couple new cover ups. I'll take this Lotty B Mustique caftan in turquoise and coral...
And, another Glamourpuss NYC Beach Poncho this time in Island with Blue Lagoon...
What's a good pair o' blues wish list without the requisite Hermès contenders? Snatched this quick pic of the mousseline stole in Paddock during my last visit and have lovingly carried around the card in my wallet since. My Machiavellian plan involves reclaiming my tan, getting another month of Insanity under my abs and working my scarf tying magic in the dressing room. Babe's a sucker for the scarf as a halter trick...
That's right. My pink one's getting lonely...
