Five

Several weeks ago Muffy Martini tagged me in a circulating post which asked me to share five items that I rarely walk out the door without. Easy peasy except for the fact that I noticed we bloggers of a feather tend to travel in the same pearl wearin', lips glossed, Crackberry toting flock. It was taxing trying to come up with at least a couple of not yet mentioned items...

There's a small jewelry box, that sits atop my larger one, which houses my quick grabs. Annnd, out of those quick grabs, the pearl studs are, more often than not, the only item that see the light of day. I wear them everywhere but the beach. Avec sweats, yes. Avec bikini, no...

This is my Crackberry's last hurrah as my pre ordered iPhone arrives today (insert jig dance). I campaigned looong and hard to keep the BB as well but, sigh...Babe ain't budging. My, Amy has both card was trumped by his, Amy has a JOB card...

In the winter months I leave the house in a long sleeved Petit Bateau tee close to 80% of the time. I have a stack that only gets better with age. Sometimes, I take off the one I wore all day with my AG cords only to replace it with another one and a pair of Lilly jammie bottoms. Aide-de-camp Lizzie and I have had a wee PB problem for years...

Unless I'm planted on a beach chair or a massage table it's difficult for me to sit still or relax. So, whenever I'm driving I try and make the most of my captive self by listening to motivational Cd's and Rhonda Byrne's The Power has been on a continuous loop for mooonths...

I have a terribly tacky habit of keeping $200 cash in my wallet and each time it depletes, I just hit the ole "debit" option in Tetter's checkout and load up again. Babe finds it terribly amusing that, while he's the one actually making the money, his cashless self carries his own luggage and hails his own cabs all over the city each week while my unemployed self marches around like Theresa on Real Housewives throwing Benjamins around. He says that every Thursday he "just follows the rainbow home to the pot of gold". Funny funny Babe...

Kindness of Muffy Martini for the tag. Even though we're on separate coasts it was tough to come up with a list that didn't completely mirror yours. Like I said, preps of a feather. And, Babe, for generously putting up with my habit of rolling like a pearl stud wearin', dual mobile slingin' mobster...XXOO

Monday Already?

Having a hard time letting go of a long lazy weekend with the fam...

There was a lot of lazin' about and movie watching...

A lot of daddy on the computer looking at Ferrari racing, pricey art and Hampton's real estate...

And, a lot of Lolls and Mummy making and eating things they had no business making or eating...

But, alas...Daddy's left to catch his train to the city, Pilgie's resumed his role as the Sunday through Thursday man o' the house, and Lolls and I are all set to pay the penance due for the insane amount of chocolate we shoveled in. Suuure can't wait to do it all over again next weekend...

Kindness of Babe for taking such good care of his family. It's always such a let down when you leave on Sundays. We're counting down the days til you're back and it's pizza, cookies and beach front manses for all! XXOO

Rock On Witch Yer Bad Self...

Paper's got nuthin' over this rock...

But, you may rock the boat with your less than secure girlfriends when they spy you wearing it...

So, caught between a rock and a hard place, you'll generously offer to let them all take a turn rockin' it...

Oh sure, they may try and rock the night away hoping you'll forget to ask for it back...

But, that's okay cuz when you're rockin' around the clock, it's easy to just rock and roll with it...

You're like the Rock of Gibraltar when it comes to putting your friends happiness first...

Annnd, if it so happens that your Jules Reid Lucite Rocks their world, then you'll just let 'em rock on with their bad selves...

Kindness of Jules Reid for channeling my beloved Mrs. Roper in a most sophisticated, if Mr. Roper hadn't been such a cheapskate, India Hicks meets Babe Paley in Roundhill for sunset cocktails, nail on the Gypset head kind of way...XXOO

Avec Lait...

Word to the wise; do not attempt to order Ceylon tea avec miel in Paris. Apparently 'tis très gauche...

Ceylon avec miel s'il vous plait (BIG I'm trying to pass as French smile...)

"Non!" Avec lait"

Eyes nervously darting from the waiter to the menu to Amy to the waiter to Babe then back to the waiter followed by a weak...miiieeelll?

"Non miel! gibbergabberish, flourish with the hands, gibbergabberish...avec lait!"

(in my best ventriloquist voice) What's he saying Amy???

"He says that Ceylon tea is too acidic with honey. He's bringing you milk"

Ohhhh kaaaay...avec lait (commence pouting...)

Well, Monsieur waiter didn't bring any ole milk. He served a petit pitcher of warm, frothy whole milk and 'twas indeed one of theee best cups of tea ever. My feet were barely back on American soil before I had William-Sonoma's Aerolatte Handheld Milk Frother en route...

Sooo, out with the Green tea with honey annnd in with the Ceylon and frothy goodness..

Not quite Paris but, close enough...

And, about to get closer...

With the Breville Electric Milk Frother I can play Parisienne Café serving up tea avec lait AND chocolat chauds while snobbishly schooling my guests on the sins of avec miel...

Kindness of the random French waiter in a café outside the Musée du Louvre. Little does he know those 30 seconds he spent correcting my bad order were digested, repacked and loaded into my snob arsenal and just biding time til it's nose in the air public debut...XXOO

Birth Of A Rachel Leigh Habit

Aide-de-camp Lizzie sent me a link to Kelly Market a couple of week ago and, after a cursory perusal, I hit pay dirt with the Rachel Leigh Audrey enamel bow bracelet find...

Ohhh, these beauties instantly jumped to theee top of my "posting/purchasing pronto" list before the mice running the mental filing system even knew what hit 'em...

But, before I could either post or purchase my recent find, the Universe winked at me when Emma uploaded her pics from formal on FB. In a matter of a mere nano second my eye registered; she did end up wearing the black dress she purchased in Australia luuuv her hair wonder if she did it herself oooo Pam wore her new Halston dress wish she was MY friend so I could raid her closet BRACELET!

It may have been 8am on a Saturday morn but, I started shooting off BBM's like I was launching an air raid. Is that a Rachel Leigh bracelet? Where did you get it? Is it yours? Is it Pams? Is that the all gold? Do you like the all gold? What's it look like in person? WAKE UP EMMA!!!

Turns out 'twas indeed. One, of a collection of six Audrey's all belonging to Pam. Oh Pammy, I juuust knew you were one of us...

Meanwhile, poor hadn't seen me all week Babe was repeatedly calling for me to come back to bed but, I was in an Audrey trance, narrowing down the colors that would be selected to kick off MY collection. And, the Gold was the first to make the cut...

Followed by the Blossom...

Which ran neck and neck with the how great will this look with a tan White...

And, the benched, but ready to be called into the game at a moment's notice, Ice...

Seems as though the Audrey has been given the stamp of approval by a well dressed brunette and statuesque blond pair of besties...

Twice!

Kindness of aide-de-camp Lizzie who proves time and time again why she's earned the aide-de-camp title. Also, Adria at Rachel Leigh Jewelry for letting me know the website will be restocked with all the shhhwanky Audrey colors by the end of the month. Lastly, Em and, her roommie/ΑΔΠ sister, Pam Csordas for the on demand pics and intel oh so very early in the morn. Better start thinking about YOUR color choice Miss March birthday girl...XXOO

Sooo Worth The Penance Due In Sweat

On Saturday I decided to treat Babe to a li'l home cooking...

I started bright and early with Mel's recently posted (via Camille Styles via Martha Stewart Living) recipe for Clementine Vanilla Bean Cake...

Makes one 5-by-9-inch loaf

10 clementines
3/4 cup heavy cream
1 tablespoon pure vanilla extract
2 cups all-purpose flour, plus more for pan
1/4 teaspoon baking powder
1/4 teaspoon baking soda
1/4 teaspoon salt
4 ounces (1 stick) unsalted butter, plus more for pan
2 cups sugar
2 vanilla beans, split and scraped
2 large eggs

Preheat oven to 350°. Butter and flour a 5-by-9-inch loaf pan. Zest 4 clementines to yield 1 tablespoon zest. Juice 2 zested clementines and 6 remaining unzested clementines to yield 3/4 cup juice. Cut pith from 2 remaining zested clementines. Slice fruit along membranes to release segments (tutorial on segmenting here) into a bowl; discard membranes and any seeds.

Combine 1/4 cup clementine juice, the cream, and vanilla extract in a medium bowl. Whisk together flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt in another bowl.

Beat zest, butter, 1 cup sugar, and the vanilla seeds with a mixer on medium speed until combined, about 4 minutes. With machine running, add eggs, 1 at a time. Reduce speed to low, and beat flour mixture into butter mixture in 3 additions, alternating with cream mixture, beginning and ending with flour.

Fold clementine segments into mixture, and pour into pan. Gently smooth top using an offset spatula.

At this point Babe suggested I stick the pan of batter into the fridge and call it a day rather than risk the inevitable outcome of burnt cake. Undeterred, I snubbed him by NOT giving him the beater to lick and continued on to, as predicted, overcook the cake...

Place pan on a rimmed baking sheet, and bake until a tester inserted into center comes out clean, 55 to 65 minutes. Meanwhile, bring remaining 1/2 cup clementine juice and cup sugar to a boil in a small saucepan over medium heat. Reduce heat, and simmer for 3 minutes.

Remove bread from oven, poke top all over with a skewer, and brush with half the clementine syrup. Transfer pan to a wire rack; let cool for 15 minutes. Invert pan to remove bread. Let cool completely on wire rack, top side up.

Brush remaining clementine syrup onto sides and again on top of bread. (Bread can be stored, wrapped, at room temperature overnight or refrigerated for up to 5 days.) Ahhh, between us, my sister and a friend, it never had a chance of lasting 5 days...

Later in the evening, I returned for round two and set to work making Housewife Bliss' recently televised recipe for Pasta Cabonara...

2 cups of heavy cream
1 clove of garlic grated or finely chopped
1 dash of pepper
6 slices of bacon cut into bite size pieces

Linguine pasta to serve 4 (she suggests Whole Foods fresh dried pasta)
1 tbsp of butter
1/2 cup of Parmesan cheese finely grated

Fill pasta pot full of water and sprinkle with salt, turn on high heat.

Grate cheese, dice garlic and cut bacon.

Add garlic and butter to a sauce pan and cook on low heat until garlic softens.

Add bacon to frying pan and cook on med heat.

Ask the Sous-Chef where she was when you were segmenting Clementines and sounding a lot like Muttly cursing Dick Dastardly...

Add all the cream to the butter and garlic, while adding gradual amounts of grated cheese, keeping the sauce on low heat. Recruit loitering hungry Sous-Chef number two for constant whisking.

Stir the bacon in the frying pan.

Remove bacon from heat, continue to stir the creamy sauce until the cheese is fully melted, then add a dash of pepper.

Strain pasta, add pasta, bacon and sauce to a large serving bowl and serve with crusty Italian bread.

Finish the meal off with a slice of (slightly overcooked but, yummy nonetheless) Clementine Vanilla Bean Cake topped with homemade whipped cream. Annnd, if you don't have room for more than a couple bites like moi, it's even better the next morn with tea...

Kindness of Melissa C Morris and Coryanne Ettiene for inspiring such a fabulous meal. Can I tell you Babe was nearly doing cartwheels for the Pasta Cabonara. My gymnastics performance was performed for dessert...XXOO

The Ballad Of Lolly Crockett

Daddy bestowed Lolly and her Coon tail with a new theme song and we had the loop playing allll weekend...

Looolleee...Laaally CROCKETT kaaaween of the wild frontierrr...

Home fer the winter with her family,
Happy watching squirrels in the ol' pine tree,
Bein' the kitten she wanted to be,
Close to her Pilgie as the pod and the pea.
Looolleee, Laaally CROCKETT, Holdin' her family dear!

But the ice went out and the warm winds came
And the meltin' snow showed tracks of fun and game

And the flowers of Spring filled Mummy's Simon Pearce vase with flame

And all of a sudden life got too tame.
Loooleee, Laaally CROCKETT, Headin' for trouble again!

Kindness of our li'l too cool for school Lolly Crockett for not growing up too fast. Just cuz your tails fillin out girlfriend doesn't mean you don't need your Mama anymore...XXOO
